[…] And that's what the confession means when it talks about invisible. And I think this is so helpful, as I mentioned. It guards us against two errors. The invisible and visible church are not two separate churches. It is the church on earth. The church on earth is a mixed field. In other words, wheat and weeds grow side by side. Some who attend, some who even profess are not actually in Christ. One can profess faith without possessing faith. We see that when they come and say, Lord, Lord. And he says, depart from me, I never knew you. They're professing, Lord, but they don't possess. And so a credible profession is required for church membership to the visible church, the church we can see. […]
