Conversations con Soul y Corazón. Platicast is an audio collage that’s as process-y, creative, intuitive, and messy as its creators. As Queer Chicana traviesas we are here to reclaim our voices, our process, and our coyote medicine and we invite you to step out of the realm of the ordinary, and take a deep dive into the mystery of what wants to be. Get your Platica on as we explore decolonization, reclamation, curanderismo, creativity, and other existential realities as women of color living between cultures & identities.
S4 E1: They Never Wanted Us Whole: Aging, Resistance, and Reclaiming the Body
Winter exposes structural weaknesses and this last winter was no exception. It revealed a body that had been simultaneously ignored and pushed past its limits, political systems fracturing under its own contradictions, and communities in Minneapolis refusing to disappear quietly into the cold.
None of that is accidental. We live in a culture that measures worth in utility and productivity, then discards what it can no longer use. Aging bodies. Immigrant bodies. Bodies that resist. The message is the same across all of them: this culture never wanted us whole. This episode is about refusing that.
In this episode:
The aging anxiety nobody prepares you for; Operation Metro Surge and Minnesota's political winter; burnout vs. burning down; the wisdom of the in-between; why tending your body is a political act; and the question: What did winter show you?

“To think of the Equinoxes and Solstices in terms of a life, the year is “born” on the winter solstice, matures at the spring equinox, and reaches the prime of life at the summer solstice. The autumnal equinox marks the descent into old age, and, finally, the moment of the winter solstice marks simultaneous death and rebirth, starting the cycle anew.” ~Wesley Baines
“As you watch those earthly leaves fall to the ground to nourish the next generation of nature, consider your own leaves. Are you letting them go? Or are you hanging on to the dead?” ~Wesley Baines
