As we head into the Halloween season, Madeline Stanley is back and has picked for us the incredibly scary and tense Outlast II. They cover all things to do with the game including each of their history with the series, the story in this game, and the scares that got the best of them. This isn’t exactly a spoiler-cast, but they do talk briefly about the ending and how having a strong knowledge of the first Outlast game influences their understanding of the story in this one. There are many ways to interpret the story and Kevin and Madeline try to make sense of a few of the theories they found online. The real magic of the game here though is in those moments when it makes you run, hide, and face your fears against your nightmarish pursuers. We hope you enjoy hearing about our run through Outlast II and that it gets you to venture through this game as well, that is if you’re into getting the pants scared off you.

Another Crab's Treasure w/ Krissy Flora and Kipp FullLore
Krissy (Flora) and Kipp (FullLore) join Kevin to talk about the adorable but deep souls-like Another Crab’s Treasure. Though the game has a great story, this is absolutely not a spoilercast. Instead the three of them get into topics like how well the souls-like formula is implemented here, how well the shell system works, and what their favorite umami (magic) spells were. They also had to talk about the sense of humor on display here and the variety of ocean-related puns that are peppered throughout the game. It also wouldn’t be an episode about a souls-like game without covering boss fights, so they go through a list of just some of the best and worst that gave them so much trouble. They also touch on the accessibility options that make this one of the most approachable games in the very intimidating genre and why anyone should at least try it. One of these options takes the concept of accessibility in a unique direction and they touch upon just how ridiculous it is. Throughout the episode Krissy also schools them with the staggering breadth of her oceanic knowledge and how many excellent real-life references there are here. If you haven’t played Another Crab’s Treasure by the time you’re listening to this episode, we sincerely hope this gets you to at least try it.

Bramble: The Mountain King w/ Jordan Vickers and Krissy Flora
This time Jordan and Krissy join Kevin to talk about Bramble: The Mountain King. This game starts out very innocent looking, but quickly takes a very dark turn into material akin to Grimm’s fairytales. The three of them all talk about why that makes the game so interesting and how the game iterates on the nordic stories it is based on. Then they do a quick run-through of the story and break down each of the monstrous bosses that our young protagonist Olle encounters. From Näcken, the fiddler at the lake, to Skogsrå the forest changeling they marveled at them all and you’ll hear why. They also all agree that this game has one of the best versions of “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and makes incredible use of it. If you haven’t played the fairytale Bramble: The Mountain King, we hope hearing about our experience gets you interested.
