About Plugged In - The Official Podcast for JSerra Catholic High School
Plugged In is a monthly podcast offering personal and professional insights from guests with hands-on involvement in the life of adolescents and expertise in education and related fields. Our goal is to partner with parents and adults involved in the formation of young men and women by inviting them to tune into ongoing and engaging conversations that offer insight into the lives, habits, culture, gifts, and challenges of the current generation of adolescents. Harboring Hatred: Hitler's Heritage and the Hans Frank Files
In this compelling and provocative episode of Plugged In, Dr. Sax shares the results of years of personal research into the family history of Adolf Hitler via the memoirs of his personal attorney, Hans Frank, a Nazi military leader who had an 11th-hour conversion while facing a death sentence. Contrary to what historians have attested for decades, Frank provides strong evidence to support the claim that Hitler's paternal grandmother had unwilling relations with a Jewish man. Hitler's incapacity to deal his outrage over his personal familial past not only fed his hatred but served as the trigger for his own extreme and diabolical acts of human brutality. Dr. Sax explains this in detail and contrasts it to Hans Frank's response to his own ruthlessness and cruelty on this episode of Plugged In.

Andrew Laubacher: Be More Human
After spending a few years on the road touring as a Christian music artist, Andrew realized his attachment to his social media was having seriously damaging effects on his life and relationships. At the same time, a friend created a start-up that gave scholarships to college students who traded in their smart phones for dumb phones—and asked Andrew to lead it. The result is Humanality, an organization that is helping hundreds of young people not only to free themselves from what they themselves describe as phone addictions, but to learn what it means to engage fully in life-giving experiences that change their hearts, their minds, and even their bodily and mental health. Join Andrew as he offers parents practical advice for improving the quality of their sons' and daughters' most formative years.
About the Guest: Andrew Laubacher is the Executive Director of Humanality, a movement dedicated to helping people overcome digital addiction and reclaim their humanity. With degrees in Theology and Philosophy, Andrew brings a unique perspective to addressing modern technological challenges. His diverse background includes a decade as a touring musician, giving him a global outlook on human connection. As a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach and personal trainer, Andrew combines his expertise in well-being with Humanality's mission to create practical strategies for digital detox and maximum human flourishing.

"Making Our Families Make Sense" with Msgr. Shea
Msgr. James Shea visited JSerra to celebrate an all-school Mass in December of 2024, and graciously agreed to arrive early that day to address a couple hundred parents at our annual Advent Tea. With his usual wit, wisdom, and winsomeness, he delivered an engaging, entertaining, and (as always) deeply moving set of remarks that far exceeded our hopes for the event. Hear his presentation in full on this month's Plugged In.
Msgr. James Shea is a priest for the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota. He took over as president of University of Mary in Fargo in 2004. Since then, the college has seen increases along every meaningful metric and has taken its place among the top Catholic colleges and universities in the nation. In addition to seeing a huge uptick in enrollment, more importantly it has benefited from an authentic Catholic curriculum and established a vibrant culture of faith formation on its campus, drawing an increasing number of young, well-formed, disciples of Jesus Christ to University of Mary. Msgr. Shea earned a bachelor's degree and a licentiate in philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and his theology degrees at the Gregorian and Lateran universities in Rome.
