Point Hope Presbyterian Church is located in Charleston, South Carolina, and gathers each Sunday at 10:00am at 160 Fairbanks Drive. Worship is centered around a thoughtful, gospel-driven liturgy that reflects both the holiness of God and His nearness, creating space for believers to grow and for those exploring faith to engage and learn. Rob Hamby serves as Pastor of Point Hope. A native of Greenville, South Carolina, he is a graduate of The Citadel and Covenant Theological Seminary and has spent over two decades in ministry. Rob and his wife Kendall have been married since 1995 and have two children. Each episode is designed to bring glory to God, strengthen believers, and offer a clear and approachable understanding of the Christian faith.

   Send Someone Else

   Have you ever been certain that someone else would be better for the very thing God has put in front of you? Most of us have a list ready. We are not gifted enough. We do not know enough. We can name ten people who would do it better without even thinking. And if our reasons sound reasonable enough, we quietly hope God will understand and send someone else. This week, Pastor Rob walked us through Exodus 4:1-17, where Moses stands at the burning bush and runs out of excuses. First he worries about his credibility: "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice" (Exodus 4:1). Then his ability: "I am slow of speech and of tongue" (v. 10). And finally, the honest truth underneath it all: "Oh, my Lord, please send someone else" (v. 13). Here's the heart of it: God is completely committed to his mission and to equipping the people he calls to carry it out. He is patient with our weakness, but he is not indifferent to our unwillingness. And the success of his mission was never resting on our talent in the first place. This is not a "just do it" message. Moses said, "Send someone else." In Gethsemane, Jesus said, "Not my will, but yours, be done," and he went all the way to the cross to finish the work his Father gave him. Now the risen Christ says to us, "As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you" (John 20:21). God is the one who rescues. And by his Spirit, he chooses to work through ordinary people like us, at work, in our neighborhoods, and around our own tables. If there is something God has been placing in front of you that you have been hoping he would hand to someone else, we pray this message gives you courage.    This Wasn't the Plan

   What if the life you have built is not the same as the life God is calling you to live? Most of us want the good life, and if we are people of faith, we believe God has something to do with it. But there are no burning bushes for us. So we quietly start listening to the loudest voice in the room: our circumstances. If something fits our gifts, our schedule, our comfort, and our plans, we assume it must be from God, and we just start living it. This week, Pastor Rob walked us through Exodus 3, where Moses is forty years removed from Egypt. He has a wife, a son, a job, and a flock. He has made the best of a hard situation. Then a bush catches fire without burning up, and God says, "Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt" (Exodus 3:10). Moses answers the way many of us would: "Who am I?" (v. 11). Here's the heart of it: We let our circumstances define God's call for our lives instead of letting God's call define how we live in our circumstances. Those two things are not the same. God's call will always collide with the life we have assembled for ourselves, and that collision is not a sign he has made a mistake. Three things to carry into your week: God's call often feels like he has the wrong person. Moses was not short on ability. He was comfortable. His circumstances were shouting, "You've got the wrong man," louder than the bush itself. When God's word runs straight into your plans, that tension is not proof you heard wrong. God's call rests on who he is, not who we are. God never tells Moses he is more talented than he thinks. He says, "I will be with you" (v. 12), and "I AM WHO I AM" (v. 14). Like the bush that burned without being consumed, God does not need us as fuel. We spend so much energy trying to be enough. The gospel invites us to stop, and to rest in the one who already is. God works through us for purposes bigger than our lives. "I have surely seen the affliction of my people" (v. 7). The aim of God's action is people, real people with faces, names, and stories. And he never just rescues us from something. He brings us to something, "a good and broad land" (v. 8). God is not bringing us back to break even. He is making all things new. If you are sensing a nudge that does not fit neatly into the life you have planned, we pray this message gives you courage.    When the Good Life is Out of Reach

   What do you do when the life you hoped for is no longer possible? Sooner or later, every one of us confronts the distance between the life we hoped for and the life we are actually living. Sometimes it arrives in one devastating moment. Sometimes it is years of quiet disappointment. And when the life we wanted becomes impossible, we struggle to believe that God can still be writing a good story for us. This week, Pastor Rob walked us through Exodus 2, starting at the end of the chapter: "God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel, and God knew" (Exodus 2:24-25). From there he traced the story of a Hebrew mother who could no longer hide her baby boy, a sister brave enough to speak to Pharaoh's daughter, and a son named Moses who would one day lead God's people out of slavery. Here's the heart of it: God does not merely know what is happening to you. He knows you in what is happening to you. Our circumstances may tell a different story, and our prayers and our waiting may feel unanswered, but God has not stopped listening, remembering, seeing, or caring. Three things to carry into your week: God understands your life. He hears the groaning you cannot put into words. He remembers his promises. He sees real people, not suffering in the abstract. And he knows, up close and personal, what this season is costing you. God is at work in the details. There is no voice from heaven in Exodus 2 and no spectacular miracle. Just a mother, a sister, a softened heart, and a baby placed in the safest home in Egypt. And then, the tender part: God gives this mother her boy back to nurse and hold for a while. God cares about the big picture, and he cares about you right now, in every detail. God's purpose is greater than you can imagine. The promise God made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was still moving forward, even in slavery. The story you are living is part of a much bigger one, and God is still writing it. If you are living in the gap between what you hoped for and what you have, we pray this message meets you there.
