[…] So if you remove that, you essentially remove the only thing that connects the central bank to the financial markets, which then connects it to the real economy. And so essentially it just gives it fewer channels for monetary policy to have an impact. You know, monetary policy becomes less potent. Now all that it affects is the interbank lending rate. And so that leaves us vulnerable to future economic shocks. And then if interest rates hit the lower bound, which state more likely will, because they're less effective, you then don't have quantitative easing. And so if you have a negative economic shock, there's very little you can do about it. […]
