Other Mommy Review | Is It Actually SCARY?!

Is Other Mommy actually scary, or is it just another supernatural horror movie packed with jump scares? Spooky season is here, and Frye and Jordan are back with another packed episode of Popcorn & Beers! This week's Butter on Top is Other Mommy, the Jessica Chastain horror film that has the crew debating whether creepy demons, jump scares, and some interesting visual tricks are enough to make a movie worth watching. The premise sounds familiar: children, supernatural forces, and a demonic presence that probably should've been left alone. But while the movie delivers some entertaining moments, the characters and storytelling leave plenty to criticize. And Jordan has an important question: Why didn't they just call it Other Mother? Frye breaks down the film's demon design, night-vision sequences, and frustrating decisions before deciding whether Other Mommy is a genuinely good horror movie or simply a decent popcorn flick for Halloween. Then Jordan brings us this week's Drunk Classic: A Haunting in Connecticut. Inspired by alleged paranormal events, the film delivers disturbing imagery, creepy atmosphere, and a collection of scares Jordan remembers all too well. But does it still hold up? The crew revisits the film's supernatural horror, unsettling story, and Jordan's memories of watching it with friends to see whether nostalgia has made this one scarier than it really is. Then it's time for What We Were Watching, and we've got a LOT to cover. Frye checks out Matchbox, Animal, Below, The Get Out, Tuner, and both seasons of Lioness. Meanwhile, Jordan brings us Buddy, Cape Fear, A Trip to Infinity, and Sweeney Todd. From demons and haunted houses to psychological thrillers, documentaries, television dramas, and musicals, there's something for everyone this week. So grab your popcorn, crack open a beer, and join us for another episode of Popcorn & Beers — your cousins, second cousins, aunties, and grandma's favorite movie podcast! And tell us: Other Mommy or A Haunting in Connecticut — which one actually scared you more? linktr.ee/thesadfan (https://t.co/wJThf0nY1V)

Digger & Verity Reviews | TWO Butter on Tops?!

One Butter on Top wasn't enough this week. Frye and Jordan are back with a loaded episode of Popcorn & Beers, and this time we're kicking things off with a surprise DOUBLE FEATURE: Digger AND Verity. First up, Digger gives the crew plenty to talk about. There's style, comedy, politics, environmental commentary and a much bigger message buried underneath it all—but does any of it actually come together? The crew breaks down the movie's filmmaking choices, performances, social commentary and strange tonal shifts while trying to answer a pretty basic question: What exactly was Digger trying to say? Then comes our surprise second Butter on Top: Verity. The movie brings complicated relationships, trauma, murder, sex and enough twists to keep everyone guessing—but not necessarily for the right reasons. Jordan may have found the perfect description: "It's Fifty Shades of Grey, but for murder." From there, Frye brings us this week's Drunk Classic: Nightmare Alley. The crew revisits Guillermo del Toro's dark tale of deception, manipulation, ambition and self-destruction, exploring the film's incredible visual style and the dangerous confidence of someone who believes he can manipulate everyone around him. Then we're on to What We Were Watching. Jordan goes horror-heavy with Rosemary's Baby and Iron Lung, while Frye checks out The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Lanterns, The Paper Season 2, and Toy Story 5. That means we've somehow packed social satire, psychological thrillers, classic horror, Dracula, superheroes, workplace comedy AND Pixar into one episode. Pretty standard week around here. So grab your popcorn, crack open a beer and join Frye and Jordan for another episode of Popcorn & Beers. And when you're finished, we need an answer: Digger or Verity — which one wins the Double Butter on Top? linktr.ee/thesadfan (https://t.co/wJThf0nY1V)

Forgotten Island SHOCKED Us | This Movie Had No Business Being This Good

Frye didn't expect much from Forgotten Island. Then the movie almost made him emotional. This week on Popcorn & Beers, Frye and Jordan have animation, horror, A24, true crime and one of Wes Craven's strangest movies on the menu. Our Butter on Top is Forgotten Island, an animated adventure Frye walked into skeptical and left genuinely happy he'd seen. The crew breaks down the movie's exploration of friendship, family and the relationships between girls and women, along with its celebration of Filipino culture and representation. But the biggest surprise may be how well the story works for adults. Behind the colorful animation and younger target audience is a story about relationships, change and experiences that Frye found unexpectedly relatable. So how did a movie he wasn't particularly excited about become one of the week's biggest surprises? Then Jordan brings us this week's Drunk Classic: The People Under the Stairs. We're heading back to Wes Craven's bizarre mixture of horror, dark comedy, childhood adventure and social commentary to find out whether this cult favorite still holds up—or whether this is one of those movies you remember very differently than it actually plays today. Then it's time for What We Were Watching. The crew checks out the new A24 film Primetime, heads into true crime with Netflix's The Unabomber, tackles another infamous American story with Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and returns underground for Silo Season 3. And we're already looking ahead. Next week's Butter on Top is Digger, while Nightmare Alley gets the Popcorn & Beers treatment as our next Drunk Classic. Animation. Horror. True crime. A24. Wes Craven. Lizzie Borden. Dystopian television. We somehow made it all fit. Grab your popcorn, crack open your favorite beer, and join Frye and Jordan for another Popcorn & Beers. linktr.ee/thesadfan (https://t.co/wJThf0nY1V)
