   YQ's philosphy on tarot

Welcome to a special episode of where I (YQ of YQmagic) dive deep into my personal philosophy about tarot and how I believe it should be used. In this episode, I break down common misconceptions about tarot—especially the idea that it’s purely a fortune-telling tool set in stone. Instead, I share why I see tarot as a guide that reveals the path you’re on right now and empowers you to change direction if you want. I talk about the history of tarot, revealing its origins as a simple card game, and how over time it’s become surrounded by myths and a sense of mystery that sometimes keeps people from exploring it for themselves. I discuss why tarot isn’t about psychic powers or ancient secrets, but about self-reflection, insight, and tapping into your own intuition. I also emphasize that the purpose of tarot isn’t about being “accurate” or predicting a fixed future, but about giving you fresh perspectives and helping you make empowered decisions. Tune in to hear why I believe you, not the cards, hold the key to your own future—and how this approach shapes what I teach in my tarot classes. If you’re listening in time, I also share the details of my upcoming class on October 12th in Singapore. I’d love to see you there!

S2E3 How to get started learning tarot

Hey, this is YQ from YQmagic, and I'm here today to tell you how to get started with learning Tarot. So this is part of my tarot snacks, bite-sized tarot lessons to help you get started with learning tarot. And the number one tip I have for you if you wanna get started learning tarot is to get a physical tarot deck. Yes. You want a deck in your hand so that you can. Start feeling it so that you can start looking at the pictures to kind of really, really see what's happening. Because, um, seeing the cards versus looking at them on a screen is very different. And when you have the cards itself in your hands, you can stare at it really, really close and see some details that you might miss out if it's purely on a screen. I know that learning from the internet is great. I, I recommend it. Super, super great. But if you do wanna. Be more serious about learning tarot do get tarot decks. And um, I do wanna caution you a bit because there are some tarot decks that are about like $5 or less than $10. Those [00:01:00] out there, and when they come, they come in like plain cards. Um, they come in like playing card size. The card stock is not great. And then also the box is kind of like a flippy, plain, playing card kind of box. You will not get those decks if you got those decks. Take a pen and jot down your notes on it because those are pirated decks. Those are fake decks and you do not wanna use, you can still use them of course. You know, it's not like they are not gonna be accurate. Cuz some people ask me, you know, are they gonna be accurate? They are still gonna be, but because it is like intellectual property that has been stolen, it's not that great. The karma, the juju there is not great. And, uh, you might be asking why you, which tarot cards should I start with? Because there are so many tarot decks out there and you see some, you're just like, oh my gosh, it's so great, I wanna buy it. And when you have it in your hands, you're like, I don't get it. So what I recommend and what I teach with is, um, Um, the right of wait. Smith Tarot deck. So my favorite is the Smith Wait [00:02:00] Centennial edition, which has some sort of like a vintage filter on it. Kind of like the old Instagram filters. I know nobody uses filters like that in on Instagram anymore, so, uh, that's a reference. I just, 10 years ago, so right of wait. Smith Deck. The reason why I recommend it is because a lot of the explanations on the internet are for the right of wait Smith, which also means that when you're learning, you wanna double check, you wanna reference, it's so much easier for you to get it from there. Um, there are also other types of tarot decks. So for example, there's the Mae and then there's the, I forgot, what is that weird guy's name. I forgot. It's very important. Someone might scream at me. What? It was quickly jumping in. Here it is the Toth deck. Anyway, the right of way Smith is what I recommend because there are a lot of. Explanation on the internet. So right away Smith is one of it. Some people really hate it cuz they really hate how, um, everyone looks so ancient. Everyone looks so, [00:03:00] um, like from medieval times and they don't like it. I, another deck that I like would be the modern witch tarot. Uh, I don't know whether they have anything that is less chunky. When I bought it, it was super chunky. I bought a limited edition, so it's like old foil. You don't have to use a limited edition. I love this because the pictures have been updated to be more modern and throughout the deck. Most of them are like, uh, they look female. They might not identify as female, the people inside. But, uh, they, it's, um, I would say a all women deck. Uh, if I can say that, if, you know, if I wanna, you know, label a gender on it. Uh, the reason I like it, I mentioned just now, and, but the only thing I don't like it is that it's so big. It's very, very hard to shuffle. Even for myself, it's so hard to shuffle, but it's a day I really like because of the, how the images appear. And then of course some other people like. All sorts of different tarot decks. What I would recommend you is that before you buy, you can buy a [00:04:00] right of wait Smith, you know, find one that might be know $20 $30. Use that one, and then you can buy a separate one, which is more different from right of weight, so that you can learn the right of weight first, or even put them together so you can see what's the difference between the right of way and the deck that you like. And before you buy a date, what I want you to do also is to maybe Google some of the images. Just put the name of the tarot deck in Google and then like your images or reviews and people will tell you whether they like it or not. And, uh, one other thing about um, buying a tarot deck, getting started with a tarot deck is that do not buy a deck where the minor arcana are just, um, no, this is like, I need to censor it, uh, cuz I'm recording a video as well. The minor arcana are the 56 tarot cards in the deck. And then some of it appears like playing cards, you know, just like five hearts, five spades. You don't wanna buy a deck like that because you cannot know, you don't remember what the meanings are. I know someone who said, you know, I'm gonna [00:05:00] buy it and then I'm not gonna be distracted by other images and I'm gonna, you know, memorize it. But I don't recommend that because it's very hard to memorize before I even know the meaning. So get one where the images can tell a story. So that is like the most important part of getting a tarot deck. So yes, if you wanna get star learning tarrell, get a date. Number two is just I would recommend, right, if you are getting a teacher to just learn everything in one shot, because there are a lot of tar cards that seem the same. And if you learn, you know, the previous week you learn about this card and you realize, oh my gosh. The card is the same meaning, you know, um, if you learn it in one shot, at least you get to know what the difference are because some of the cards are very similar, but they have like different dimensions to it. So if you wanna, I teach like within a day, so when I teach tarot we. Run through all the meanings and if there's anything worth mentioning or mentioning it there as well. If you're learning [00:06:00] tarot, uh, I would recommend you not to look at the little white book that comes with the deck. So if you're buying a deck, it can come with a little white booklet where it has all the keywords of the cards. I don't recommend learning from there because a lot of keywords would be similar once I was running like a free session of like, you know, uh, for people learn tarot and then I. Silly Lee stupidly released like keywords for the cards, and then people were just tripping over themselves asking Why does this card have the same keywords as that card? But because there wasn't anyone there to explain what the difference is, it was hard for them to really learn what the cards are. And you can get started learning tarot by practicing, practicing, practicing, and knowing that you don't have to get it right at the first start. You don't, there's no pressure for you to be like Nostradamus. As soon as you pick up your cards, you can pick up a card, look at it, then double check what the card means. Because one thing is also that you don't wanna pull a card [00:07:00] and immediately go to the book to try and see what the meeting is, because question that was asked can. Be a bit different from what the keywords are providing. So you just wanna see the card first, explain what you see in the cards, any complies situation very, very well. Then you go to the book. So that is my recommendation. Another tip for getting salary tarot is do not use a big, big tarot spread. Do not start. Reading a Celtic Cross with 10 cards and you get confused because it will just demonetize you. So what you wanna do is just pull one card for one question. If you need explanations, you pull one card again and one card again, and you explain it as you go along because you will be less tripped up. Over the cards, and then you will be a lot more confident that way. And my last tip would be to practice by reading for yourself. The thing is that some people like to pull like a card of the day and sometimes it doesn't really fit, you know, the the day that you went through. So what I recommend if you're reading for your yourself, is to actually have a question and read for [00:08:00] it, because then it's more applicable versus like what's gonna happen throughout the day. And then one card cannot really fit. All of it. So that's it for me today, and if you have any questions, if you would like me to cover more tarot snacks, let me know. Send me an email hello@yqmagic.com and.

   S2E2 Misconceptions about tarot

Hello, this is YQ from YQmagic. I’m running an in-person tarot workshop on July 22nd. yqmagic.com (yqmagic.com) for details I'll be running a series of podcast episodes for people who are interested in learning tarot, debunking some of the myths and also helping you to get started on your tarot journey more easy, or is it easier, easier? So, The thing we're going to talk about now is misconceptions about tarot, because I do feel that sometimes people do not dare get a reading or even touch tarot cards because of these misconceptions. I believe a lot of these misconceptions are religiously based because there are some religions that are really, really against quote unquote, fortune telling and. If you haven't. Had experienced with taro. You can have these misconceptions so the top misconception is that tarot is evil. I feel that terrible has this reputation of being evil. Unlike maybe astrology. Or even, numerology it's because people are thinking, " These are just cards, how can you get messages on them?" Versus astrology, you might say, okay, The state matches with this thing on the birth chart. So it's not evil, but honestly, tarot is not evil. Because they are just pieces of paper. Honestly, there are pages of paper and what comes out of these high readings are the readers. Interpretation of the cards based on the questions that are given by the person asking for readings on clients. And a lot of times what happens I feel is that the messages that come out. Very synchronized or what's happening with the client's life. And some of these synchronicities I, I would not say that, oh, you know, pushed by. What a higher being or anything like that. But us as humans, we're trying to make sense of our lives in sometimes. These meanings. Link. To whatever we have had in mind or whatever we are experiencing. And it does gives us more. Bravery or gives us more clarity on what we are doing Misconception number two is that there are spirits involved when reading tarot and people are very, very fearful about this. I get this question a lot, you know, "Are there spirits when I read tarot? Would I get bad luck from it?:. I think this is pretty similar as a misconception. Number one. Where does I'm the evil entity involved when reading Tyrell? I have to clarify, not clarify. I have to disclaimer, disclaimer, disclaimer. And that personally for me, When I'm reading Tyro, I do not invoke any spirits. I do not feel that you know, there are any spirit guides near me whispering to me, but there are a lot of other tarot readers that can tell you, "oh, my guide is saying this, my guide is saying that." That's how they do it. I cannot comment on, you know, how they do it, or even like how they get in touch with these guides. But for me as someone who is not a psychic for me as someone who is very, very practical and very, very grounded, I do not have these guides where I do have is my intuition. So I believe in my intuition more than whatever's trying to talk to me. So. If you are interested in getting a tarot reading or even interested in learning tarot, just be comforted that there are no spirits involved, unless, unless your tarot reader tells you that they call in spirit guide. Then it depends on you, whether you want. A tarot reading that has these guides involved, Or you can ask the tarot reader whether these guides are friendly, or are they not that great. And you can make your decisions from there. Misconception number three is a tarot is only about predicting the future. I think this misconception really limits what we can do with tarot, because honestly, How many times do I read about the future? Not as much as what I am reading about the now. So for me, tarot is really about what's happening now. The current situation so that I can make decisions so that I can make changes. To better the future. And a lot of times, right, because for me as someone who is not very in tune to my emotions, the only emotions I can feel is anger and like. Really really deep sadness. So there's no, in-between. I sometimes have to use tarot cards to just dig out some of these feelings that I have. So I think it's very useful for that as well. So tarot's not just about predicting the future. tarot has so many other uses, especially if you're interested in personal development. Or personal exploration, tarot is a great tool for that. Misconception number four is that tarot answers are set in stone. So this is easy for us to fall into the misconception because we feel that. the tarot reader has more knowledge than we do. And then they know better, which is why, whatever they say is true and correct, and will not change. This false does is highly false because each tarot reader also have their own biases. Have their own. Way of seeing things. As a client, honestly, you can be hiding things from them that might not give them the full picture to tell you what the cards are saying. So. If you hear from a tarot reader, though, that you will be single forever and ever or your relationships won't last. Yeah. I have to ask yourself, you know, what information d o they have about you to make these sort of a quote unquote predictions and for you to really discern. Whether they have authority to say things like that. The final thing that I want to leave you with is that tarot readings are not set in stone. You can make changes. You can. I see it at taro is a way of illuminating what's ahead. And if you don't like what's there, you can make changes. You can ask the cards what sort of changes you can make, you can even make your own choice, how you want things to change for the better. . How I see tarot reading is that it shows you what might happen or what is happening. And might happen if nothing in your life changes. So this also means that you have the ability to make the changes that you want so that you can affect your own future. So do not just be there sitting, doing nothing after a tarot reading. If you want to change, you have to make the change. Yep. So that's it from me today. I'm YQ from YQmagic. If you're interested in learning more about my in-person tarot workshop, you can go to yqmagic.com. And I believe the link will be updated to whatever new things I'm doing. So if you go there. You can also see what's happening with me. So I will talk to you next time. And if you have any questions you want me to cover, let me know. Send me a dm on instagram at yq magic and i will be helping you out as well

S2E1 Why you should learn to read tarot for yourself

Welcome to Tarot Snacks by YQmagic. This is a series of bite-size lessons to help you get an idea of where taro is and to understand tarot before you start learning. Who am I? Hello, I'm your instructor. I'm YQ from YQmagic. I'm not a psychic, but I do read and teach tarot. This also means that you do not have to be a psychic to be able to read tarot. I started learning tarot in 2003, and teaching tarot in 2017 So for me, there is like this huge space in between me starting to learn and me being confident enough to teach. So i do think that i have a few tips for you if you want to cut short your learning time and be confident in reading tarot. Why you should learn to read tarot And this first episode, I'll just share with you why I think that you should learn tarot and how it is able to help with your daily life So currently you might have a tarot reader that you trust or go to, or you're just looking at tarot readings on YouTube or Tik Tok and try to apply it to a life. These are great but I feel that once you learn tarot, once you're able to read for yourself, The readings can get really personal. The readings can get really specific to you. And you can do readings for yourself whenever you want instead of, you know, scheduling time with your favourite tarot reader. And then maybe the question the problem has been solved in between the waiting time. One of the benefits of being able to read tarot for yourself is that you're able to gain insights into yourself and your life. Tarot cards, right, are not just for predicting the future. They can be very, very powerful tools to help you for self-reflection and personal growth. So when you're reading tarot for yourself, you can gain a deeper understanding of your own thoughts, feelings, and motivations, and you can use it to explore your past present future. And also guidance for your journey. Reading tarot for yourself can also help you connect with your intuition In our world right now, we are so busy doing, doing, doing that. We don't really have time to pause and listen to ourselves. And once you're reading tarot for yourself, you have this space, you have this time just to understand what's going on inside. [00:02:00] Understand what are some of the little tiny voices inside you that are from you? They are trying to tell you you know how things should go or even like yo i'm giving you some encouragement that you are on the right path. Reading tarot for yourself can give you some reassurance. This is how I use taro. Most of the time. Where I need to understand what's going on now. And most of the time when the cards come out, they are just telling me, Hey, you are doing well. Hey, you know, This is something that you shouldn't be anxious about and I take you and I'm happy. And of course there are times when the cards come out, quote, unquote bad. But then I also pause and take time and think to myself, what is it about this situation that is not going well? And how can I make changes? To it, so that it's better for me. So instead of just, you know, feeling anxious all the time, I have the cards that helped me guide me along. And I feel that personally for me, this is the biggest benefit of. Reading tarot for myself Being able to read tarot can also help you build connection with other people. Honestly, when I first started reading tarot, I just wanted to be cool. I just want people to say, oh my goshshe reads tarot.. She's cool. But in the end, I personally, I read tarot a lot more for myself, but if you're someone more extroverted, If you're someone who wants to connect with other people, having a deck is a way that you can connect with people and also be able to help others along the way Get the free tarot Pre-Workshop training at freetarotschool.com (freetarotschool.com)

Episode 7: Setting New Year Goal with Astrology

Hi this is YQ from YQmagic and the practically spiritual podcast. Today, we're talking about setting your 2023 goals with astrology. I just had surgery and it's not that easy to talk. New Year is when people love setting New Year's Resolution. I won't talk about the actual part about achieving it--it's a much bigger topic that relates to your emotional wants and setting up habits to achieve your resolutions But we'll be talking about how to set New Year Goals with astrology, specifically with Jupiter transits. To follow along, you will need to know your rising sign, which requires you to have your birth time. If you do not know your rising sign, technically you can still use this formula for setting new year goals. You can get birth chart with description over at https://tarotsingapore.online/birthchart/ Jupiter is the planet of growth and abundance. It's called the "greater benefic" with Venus being #2. Jupiter transits can make that particular part of your life more "lucky" and expansive so why don't we use it to help us set goals that are easy to achieve? I also like using astrology (which includes new moon goal setting) to set my goals because it will touch on ALL parts of my life--else I'll be stuck with making career goals all the time. For 2023, Jupiter will be in Aries until May 2023 and will be in Taurus from May 2023 to May 2024. Jupiter is in a sign for about a year--it had already been in Aries for a little bit last year so we're getting a rather speedy Jupiter this year. For those who know more astrology, Jupiter is at 1 degrees Aries at the start of the year and at 5 degrees Taurus at the end of the year. So you can see which houses these points are in your chart. If you're not so familiar with astrology, here's a quick guide on which house Jupiter is in your chart for 2023 and till May 2024. What I'm sharing will be based on whole sign house--which is a popular system for some of the more traditional astrologers. To find out house Jupiter is in for 2023-2024 and the related topics, head to my blog post at https://tarotsingapore.online/goal-setting-with-astrology/ * * Links mentioned: To find out house Jupiter is in for 2023-2024, head to my blog post at https://tarotsingapore.online/goal-setting-with-astrology/ This episode is brought to you by Tarot From Zero training which is best for those who wish to get started with tarot. Episode 6: That time I paid $5,000 and joined a cult

On this episode of YQ, we have a gripping and personal story to share. Our guest recounts a time when they made a life-altering decision to join a cult, spending a staggering $5,000 in the process. This decision led them down a dark path, leaving them feeling slightly depressed and unsure of their own coherence. As our guest reflects on their journey and the emotional distress they experienced, they open up about their struggles in finding the right words to share this captivating tale. Tune in as our speaker discusses the episode that they haven't written yet, possibly for another show or series, emphasizing the lack of guidelines or a script. Taking us back to 2015, during their second job, they paint a vivid picture of their misery, having quit their previous job two years prior. It was during this difficult time that they made the impulsive decision to throw away a significant amount of money, marking the beginning of a pattern of reckless spending. The story unfolds as our guest recounts their participation in a three-day intensive session and a five-week follow-up program that they couldn't afford. Through candid and memorable encounters, such as an intriguing conversation in the bathroom with a friendly but surprising stranger, they take us on a journey where the boundaries of mind control and the cost of personal transformation blur. Exploring the eight steps to mind control ordinary people, our speaker shares their own experiences of self-doubt and hesitation. Renouncing loved ones becomes a looming requirement, but their inner conflict prompts them to question its necessity. Wise counsel from friends suggests an alternative: paying the hefty price of $5,000 instead. As the speaker grapples with tough decisions and conflicting beliefs, they delve into the concept of tough love and its relevance in their own life. Amidst tears and emotional distress during therapy sessions, our guest discovers moments of strange yet liberating activities that leave them questioning their own self-perception. Episode 4: Advice I'd give myself if I were starting tarot now

In this episode, YQ shares the advice she'd give herself if she were to start tarot now. On this episode of YQ, our host shares their recommendations for Tarot decks, starting with the Riderweight deck for tarot readings. They acknowledge that some individuals may find the drawings offensive or not to their liking, so they also suggest alternative decks such as the Modern Witch Tarot, Centennial Smith Weight Edition, and Radiant Riderweight. For those interested in intuitive storytelling designs that complement textbook meanings, they recommend the Riderweights Myth deck. As for spreads, our host advises using simple spreads instead of complicated ones like the Celtic cross for beginners. They emphasize that choosing the wrong spread can lead to feeling discouraged. Explaining why Tarot is easier for them to learn due to its storytelling aspect, our host refrains from comparing Tarot to other tools. The podcast then delves into career readings and how beginners often make the mistake of asking generic questions. They suggest using Tarot spreads with specific questions for career readings and share that Google offers resources for career reading Tarot spreads. It's essential to ask specific and focused questions about different aspects of one's career rather than a broad question. Our host further explores the misconceptions they had about Tarot and how it can't predict the future or reveal future partners. They then shift gears to giving advice to their past self if they were starting Tarot now. They had initially planned to speak about learning Tarot but realized that their past self didn't have the same access to information due to the internet. As a Tarot instructor, the host believes it is easier for students to learn all the cards in one session rather than over multiple weeks, preventing them from forgetting what was already learned. They also touch on the importance of discussing similar cards immediately to aid interpretation. Throughout the episode, our host addresses the challenges beginners face when learning Tarot, such as the overwhelming amount of information and the misconception that it can be easily grasped in one sitting. They offer tips for reading Tarot cards emphasizing the importance of getting clear on what you are asking. The host, Waiku from Waiki Magic, shares their background as a Tarot instructor and astrologer, describing themselves as "practically spiritual" and using spirituality tools in practical ways. They recount their experience of buying Tarot cards from Taiwan and China, which were not in English, and how learning Tarot in English online proved to be easier for them. They stress the importance of finding learning methods that suit individual styles, whether it be through books or videos. Listeners are also given a sneak peek into Live Tarot workshops with no specific date mentioned. To stay updated, they encourage everyone to follow them on Instagram @Yqmagic. Our host concludes the episode by highlighting the differences between Marseille tarot cards and Rider-Waite Smith tarot cards, suggesting that the latter is more accessible due to readily available explanations online. They advise against relying too heavily on the guidebook that comes with the deck, known as the Little White Book." Connect with YQ on Instagram @yqmagic Want to start learning tarot?
