Ep 19. Debriefing the Canberra Airport shooting and rising levels of violence

At 1:20pm on Sunday 14 August, 2022, a 63 year old man allegedly drew a pistol and fired at least five rounds into glass panels at the departures area of Canberra Airport. Thankfully no one was hurt and the alleged offender was arrested immediately, but the incident serves as a wakeup call for Australians who have been somewhat complacent about the threat of shootings in this country. Coming off the heels of the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, and a list of gun murders throughout the country, our expert panel discuss what Australian businesses and communities need to know and be aware of to address this risk.

The panel for this discussion features:

Leanne Close - Former Deputy Commission National Security of the Australian Federal Police (30+ year policing career)

Jason Alcorn - Former Northern Territory and AFP officer, 20+ years in high-risk security management

Joe Saunders - Leading workplace violence expert, 2021 Outstanding Security Consultant of the Year and 2022 IFSEC Global Thought Leader in Security
