Episode 08: Houston Pride: The Diversity Dance of Rain or Shine

Everything’s bigger in Texas—including the stories behind Houston, Texas and their Pride celebrations. We take you back to the first Pride parade in 1979, then travel through decades of archival footage and memories to the city’s first nighttime parade in 1997 organized by former Mayor Annise Parker. Hear the insights from the people on the ground: organizers and pioneers who helped build the celebration—and the challenges they faced along the way. We interviewed American rapper and bounce icon Freedia who holds the Guinness World Record for the most people twerking simultaneously. We spoke with the Montrose Center’s CEO Avery Belyeu, a few Pride grand marshals, and many very wet Houstonians who celebrated Pride regardless of the heavy rains that postponed the parade. It’s a little history, a lot of heart, and a whole lot of H-Town. Twerk, cheer, and find out hot it has to be to fry an egg on the pavement. Remember when you hear a “Pop” sound effect, head on over to YouTube to see more tips and facts about the episode. This episode is dedicated to Houston Pride’s 2026 Distinguished Grand Marshal Kennedy Loftin, who died of brain cancer at 44. Come for the celebration; stay for the people who made it possible. This episode's Pillars of Change Pay-It-Forward recipient is The Montrose Center. Episode Seven: Madrid Pride: Orgullo en llamas, Pride on Fire

Madrid was still protesting a few years ago — and it's dancing even louder because of it. This episode, Joan Oh! (AKA Jono Kitchens) and Candy Licious storm Plaza Mayor and the streets of Spain's capital for the fire, the shimmer, and the dimmer side of Madrid Pride nobody puts on a postcard. We go behind the barricades with the leather community (meet Master Zeus and Puppy Bebe — yes, there's a story behind that collar), and land an exclusive sit-down with PSOE politician Santiago "Santi" Rivero: how Madrid Pride runs on volunteer power alone, the 2021 vote that barely stopped Madrid's trans rights law from being erased, and his take on trailblazing Senator Carla Antonelli. Then things get dramatic — flamenco royalty Ricardo Castro Romero opens up about hiding his identity and his dreams inside a closet as a kid, and growing up to bring his family's art to the legendary stage of Russia's Mariinsky Theatre. Plus, Madrid's finest tour guides Enrique Marco Montero and Jovan Gibson of the House of Aviance spill on tourism, visas, and choosing Madrid over literally everywhere else for love. We went backstage, marched in the streets with the people of Madrid, and found out exactly why Spain just claimed the #1 spot in Europe for LGBTQ+ legal rights and policies.* This is Madrid: Orgullo en llamas, Pride on Fire on Pride This Way. Ep- 05: Provincetown Pride: Low Tide, High Drag - Protecting Ptown (Part 1)

Provincetown, Massachusetts has been called America’s gayest safe harbor — but in 2026, staying that way takes more than glitter. This episode of Pride This Way heads to the tip of Cape Cod for Provincetown Pride, where drag queens hawk tickets on Commercial Street, boys wear high heels to the docks, and the fight to protect this queer safe harbor is very real. We sit down with Rachael Brister, Executive Director of the Provincetown Business Guild (PBG), and learn why the official Provincetown Pride and visibility still matters in “the queerest place on earth.” Comedian Kristen Becker tells us how she founded Summer of Sass, a nonprofit that relocates vulnerable LGBTQ+ 18–20-year-olds out of hostile hometowns into summer housing and jobs in P-town and preaches about the atheists and Christians attending her “Loosen the Bible Belt” tour— and Sasser Salem opens up about Summer of Sass, leaving Atlanta, finding chosen family, and what it’s really like starting gender-affirming hormone therapy. We also catch up with drag performer Preston Seymour (aka Sutton Lee Seymour) of the Art House, celebrating 20 years and debuting his new show, Super Ma’am. This episode’s Pay It Forward recipients are the Provincetown Business Guild — the people who plan the party and fight to protect it and Summer of Sass – because a little sass goes along way with these folks. It also unleashes for the first time, “Out! Takes” bloopers, when the rainbow hits record and then falls off the stage. Pride This Way is the first globetrotting podcast/vodcast following Pride events around the world, hosted by local city ambassadors who speak each city’s language. Serving joy in every time zone. Episode Four: Deep Cuts: Policy & Pride

In this Deep Cuts special from Pride This Way, we step off the parade route to talk with the people living inside the laws: students, politicians, professors, and organizers navigating the impact of LGBTQ+ legislation across the United States. This episode features activists, Jay W. Walker and Brigid McGinn from Gays Against Guns (https://www.gaysagainstguns.org/) (our Pay-It-Forward Program Recipient), Senator Danica Roem, former Mayor Annise Parker, and transgender founder of TQVoices, Jade Runk (https://www.instagram.com/jade.runk/?hl=en). As visibility and celebration grow, policy is still quietly defining who gets protected, who feels unsafe, and whose stories are erased. This episode unpacks how recent decisions during the Trump administration have challenged queer and trans rights, what those changes mean on campus and in community spaces, and where listeners can find power in resistance and coalition-building. Listen in for a grounded, human look at Pride beyond the confetti—where policy is personal, and the stakes are real.

Meet the Hosts: Protests Before Parades (Pilot)

Before the floats, the flags, and the rainbow crosswalks, there were queer people with nothing left to lose and everything to prove. Episode 01 of Pride This Way goes back to the roots of Pride as protest, tracing a line from Stonewall and AIDS-era marches to today’s glitter-covered parades and global Pride routes. In the pilot, we meet our global storytellers, the co-hosts of Pride This Way. This episode brings Soraya Vivian, Tara McDonald, Muffy Vanderbilt III, Jason Ess, Conleth Kane, and Jono Kitchens, together for a deep Pride dive. The pilot episode weaves archival news footage, brutal anti-gay propaganda, and on-the-ground Pride soundscapes into a powerful reminder that our joy was built on resistance. You’ll hear original music, hear from the voices keeping Pride alive, and find out how our Pay-It-Forward Program for this episode support organizations like UK Pride Organisers Network, InterPride, and UPI Loan Fund. Hit play to step off the sidewalk, into the street, and into the history that made Pride possible—and stick around for a tease of Episode 02 at Miami Beach Pride with Grammy winner, DJ Tracy Young, RuPaul’s Drag superstar, Latrice Royale, local politicians, and more.
