Going Part of the Way Is Not the Same As Going the Wrong Way

Going part of the way is not the same as going the wrong

Jostein Gardner wrote a beautiful book called Sophie's

in which a young girl learns the history of philosophy.

⁓

The philosopher eventually gives Sophie that quote when describing how St. Aquinas thought of Aristotle's partial understanding and agreement with the Christian doctrine.

Aquinas said that Aristotle got part of the way there, but not all the way to the Christian revelation.

Now that is a small moment in a wonderful book which I cannot recommend enough either to your precocious high-level reading 12 year old or you're constantly searching and seeking 44 year old very happy birthday to me. Most of the people I know best are not truly content

with their lives. The people in my circle tend to be happy, motivated, fulfilled in their work and their day-to-day existence, but still reaching for something more. Ambitious is a word, but frankly, that seems to imply a little bit more greed than what I mean.

how about part of the way? And as we've learned now from St. Aquinas and Aristotle, from Sophie and the philosopher, and Justine Gardner.

going only part of the way is not the same as going the wrong way.

Birthdays tend to make me a little reflective, and my guess is that I'm not alone in that. As you spend around the sun for your next trip, you may find yourself more focused on what you've yet to accomplish than what you have.

just want you to save this video and remind yourself that part of the way is not the wrong way. If I woke up today and got part of the way toward my weight loss goal and then got part of the way there tomorrow and part of the way the day after suddenly I'd be there in the unending progress of days.

and much sooner than you might imagine after the first or the fifth or the fiftieth.

Big things have small beginnings, and the journey of a thousand miles starts with that one small step.

If your resolution for 2025 was to build a deep and passionate marriage where yours had gone stale and you're not lighting any fireworks yet but you are talking more than you're yelling, then you didn't go the wrong way this year.

you meant to start a business and what you've done is redraft and scrap and rebuild the business plan more times than you'd like to admit even to your mastermind group then you didn't go the wrong way this year.

If you wanted to become a household name in your industry and establish yourself as the go-to for your field, but what you did was start a YouTube channel and buy a nice microphone. Well, you didn't go the wrong way this year.

Progress is just that, progressive. Make some today, add what you can tomorrow, give yourself grace when what you can do is nothing at all, and don't give up when you look up and realize you're still not there yet. Going part of the way is not the same as going the wrong way. You just have to keep going.

If honing and sharing your message to the world is part of your resolutions for 2025, well, you haven't gone the wrong way yet. I've got a course starting November right now you've still got access to the early bird special prices. JoelSharpton.com for the details or you can find the link below this post. Join me for six weeks. We'll start November 1st and end before Christmas vacation.

We’ll hone your message: who you are, what you do, and why people should care. We'll teach you how to craft it with great equipment and great software. And we'll teach you how to share it to the world and launch it properly for success in the new year and beyond.

Part of the way is not the same as going the wrong way.

You've already gone part of the way. Let's get you to the goal line.

This is a public episode.
