A Valentine's special on the love and hate of building products. Segun Odufuwa and Chigozie Njoku on products born from their own itch, the ones that didn't work, the discipline that keeps a product alive — a plan, defined requirements, modules — and what the struggle teaches.
One year building tools for neighbourhood grocery stores: very painful and very exciting at the same time, and a lesson in resilience, in knowing when to move and when not to.
Guests:
Segun Odufuwa
Chigozie Njoku
Hosted by Emmanuel Ogunsola.
Recorded live as an X Space on Tuesday 14 February 2023.

Back to the Basics: Checklists for launching a Product
Back to the Basics: what has to be true before a product goes out the door. Adegoke Talabi, Julian Duru and Chibuzor Obilom build a launch checklist from three angles — sales, architecture and quality.
Know your competition. Sell before you launch, even in an enterprise setting. And have a clearly defined rollback plan: every deployment gets a tag, you know the one you'd roll back to, and when something goes wrong you tell your customers, because communication goes a long way.
Guests:
Adegoke Talabi
Julian Duru
Chibuzor Obilom
Co-hosted by Emmanuel Ogunsola and Goodnews George.
Recorded live as an X Space on Tuesday 7 February 2023.

Ground Zero: Building Products from Scratch
Ground Zero: three founders on building products from scratch. Odun Odubanjo (Co-founder & CEO, Insight7), Moyo Sodipo (Co-founder & CPO, Busha) and Tolu Abiodun (Co-founder & CEO, Zilla) on being different, getting as much data as you can, and validating before you build — because every unvalidated line of code makes the product more expensive and slower to ship.
The honest lesson: the biggest mistake building Insight7 was not spending long enough in the prototype phase. Startups and big companies alike are too eager to start writing code.
Guests:
Odun Odubanjo
Moyo Sodipo
Tolu Abiodun
Co-hosted by Emmanuel Ogunsola and Goodnews George.

Building a Career in Product Marketing
What does a product marketer actually do, and how is it different from product management? Busayo Durojaye and Princewill Ejirika on building a career in product marketing: positioning, launches, building features around customer insights, and the channels and skills worth learning.
The one thing you cannot delegate is talking to the customer. Listen to the pain point, not the requested solution — they'd have asked for faster horses — and let the data finish the sentence.
Guests:
Busayo Durojaye
Princewill Ejirika
Hosted by Goodnews George, with co-host Emmanuel Ogunsola.
Recorded live as an X Space on Tuesday 22 November 2022.

How Operational Excellence can help Boost Product Growth
What you sell is a promise; operations is its delivery. Sikemi Tayo (operations excellence professional and systems operations consultant) and Alex Adenuga (Co-founder & Head of Operations, Movam Technologies) on operational excellence: executing strategy the way it was meant to be executed, building into the product what it takes to run it, and looking at your data objectively.
It starts with a landmark field a rider never sees: a well-meant feature that creates a phone call every delivery. Unless you want to be the cliché with shiny adverts and a flawed product, operations is a potential deal breaker.
Guests:
Sikemi Tayo
Alex Adenuga
Hosted by Goodnews George, with co-host Emmanuel Ogunsola.
Recorded live as an X Space on Tuesday 15 November 2022 (rescheduled from 8 November 2022).

Building Web3 Products in a Centralised World
Web3 is open, but it talks to itself. Oluwatosin Amusan and on building web3 products inside a centralised world: open source and ownership, switching costs, why web3 people speak as if everyone already understands them, and what it is like to learn the space from scratch — like learning to read and write again.
The lesson for anyone crossing over from web2: without people and a community around you, you get swamped and drop it. With them, what you read starts to make sense.
Guests:
Oluwatosin Amusan
Jennifer Echenim
Hosted by Goodnews George, with co-host Emmanuel Ogunsola.

Mental Health for Product Professionals
Tech is not a nine-to-five, the culture says bottle it up, and the body keeps score. Toluse Dove Francis, founder of Reuel Consulting and a mental health and relationship therapist, in a candid conversation about stress and burnout in product and tech careers: the signs people ignore (the headache that comes back every day), why especially men are told to hide it, what to do before it climaxes, and how to ask for help.
A practical, unhurried episode about guarding your health as jealously as your roadmap. Sometimes the first step is just to take a walk.

Effective Communication during a Product Crisis
When the product breaks, the statement you put out can do more damage than the outage. Jemima Adegoke and Olukayode Kolawole on crisis communication: anticipating the risks for every part of the business, telling people what is really going on, training your spokespeople before you need them, and how to make a decision when there is no time (two to four recommendations with their likely outcomes, then choose).
The rule to remember: in chess, the pawns don't move back. Never rush a statement you cannot retrieve.

Olukayode Kolawole

Stakeholder Management for Product Professionals
Product managers don't really do anything — they get the job done by getting other people to do it. Nnamdi Azodo and Chilezie Unachukwu on stakeholder management: being the one who keeps everyone clear on the goal, managing up, down and sideways, and when to let your manager carry the cross.
The practical heart of it: build the relationships before you need them. Talk to your developers outside work, watch the match together, check in — because if the first time you call Tunde is the night of the fire, he won't pick up.
Guests:
Nnamdi Azodo
Chilezie Unachukwu

Customer Support: What You Need to Know!
The customer is why the business exists. Jo-Sharon Udoh and David Edokpayi on what customer support really is, where companies get it wrong (expectations set too high, then an unanswered customer), how to hire and keep support heroes, and why the customer may not be king but still needs hand-holding and honesty.
And the debate: is customer success different from customer support? Reactive versus proactive — where support ends, success begins, and you don't build the second without the first.
Guests:
Jo-Sharon Udoh
David Edokpayi
Hosted by Goodnews George, with co-host Emmanuel Ogunsola.

Who Should Determine How a Product is Designed
Who should decide how a product is designed — the customer or the business? An open debate with the room, a poll, and a conclusion that cuts both ways: the customer is the only reason the business is alive, so design along how they already behave. But innovation does not wait for customers to ask for it. Nobody requested the next big thing; it came from the research the company did to see the next opportunity.
Eighty percent of the time it's the business, looking at the data, deciding what to build; then, while it's being built, you listen hard to the people using it.
Hosted by Emmanuel Ogunsola, with co-host Goodnews George.
Recorded live as an X Space on Tuesday 20 September 2022.
An open debate - business or customer - with the room, no guests.

Becoming a World-Class Software Engineer
Two senior software engineers, Oyewale Oyediran and Moyinoluwa Adeyemi, on what world-class actually means: learn the fundamentals before the frameworks, share what you learn in writing, and let the community carry you - every job they've had came through it.
Also: knowing when to stop and ask for help (sandbox a problem for four hours, then reach out - it's not weakness), rubber-ducking your way to the answer, and the lesson that took longest to learn: it is not enough to do the work, you have to tell people you're doing it. It isn't bragging if it's true. Recorded with a packed room of engineers asking questions.
Guests:
Oyewale Oyediran
Moyinoluwa Adeyemi
Hosted by Goodnews George, with co-host Emmanuel Ogunsola.

Software Testing: The Real Ghetto
Testing is a process, not a gate. Chibuzor Obilom and Kolapo Bankole take us through the software testing life cycle end to end: planning, what to automate and what not to, bug reports developers will actually act on, and surviving the week when "it has to go live" no matter what.
Should testers sit with developers or apart? Shift-left means everybody starts working at once — QA, security, engineering — so no one unexpectedly elongates the timeline. Beyond that, it's context: the company, the team, the situation.
Guests:
Chibuzor Obilom
Kolapo Bankole
Hosted by Emmanuel Ogunsola, with cohost Tobechukwu Otuokere.
