Find your voice and use it
Dr. Uzma Syed and I talk about her journey from witnessing a surgery as a child that illuminated the path she knew was right for her to her leadership as an infectious disease expert including navigating the pandemic, and all of the incredible initiatives she is a part of. Some of the wisdom Dr. Syed shares with us includes: - If you follow your passion, it's not going to seem like work to you. - How she trusted her gut and spoke up to try and help her health system prepare for the pandemic. - Stay focused on the task and ignore the background noise. - There will be a lot of naysayers, but find your voice and be comfortable enough to use it. - Don’t get so hung up on a timeline. - There will be a lot of lows, but there will be plenty of highs to celebrate and to be grateful for. - Be true to yourself. Really think about what makes you happy and question if you’re doing things for the right reasons. - Trust your instinct, and if you think this is the right thing to do you shouldn't second guess yourself. About Dr. Uzma Syed: Dr Uzma Syed is a board-certified Infectious Disease physician, president at South Shore Infectious Disease, Chair of the COVID-19 Task Force, and is the Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence at Good Samaritan Hospital. She has worked extensively with multiple organizations and administrations to build vaccine confidence across diverse communities. Dr. Syed is the founder & CEO of Align Us Inc, which provides career mentorship for high school students. She was selected to serve on the Sepsis Alliance’s board of directors.
