He began his career at the <strong>Ogden Police Department</strong>, where he worked patrol, motor enforcement, and SWAT before moving into investigations where he led task forces that hunted serial predators and violent offenders.</p><p>Mike’s expertise earned him national recognition. He served as <strong>co-chair of the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) National Advisory Board</strong>, directed <strong>UTAP, the Utah Criminal Tracking and Analysis Project</strong>, and supported <strong>intelligence operations during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games</strong> in Salt Lake City.</p><p>After retiring from public service, Mike joined the <strong>Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri)</strong>, where he spent years consulting with police agencies around the globe on <strong>intelligence gathering, emergency communications, and major event management</strong>. In 2024, he retired again, this time to focus full-time on <strong>Profiling Evil</strong> and its growing community of true crime investigators, students, and enthusiasts.</p><p>Mike is an <strong>internationally recognized speaker, trainer, and adjunct professor</strong>, as well as a <strong>visiting scholar</strong> at multiple universities.
