Microbes With Dr. Melanie Higgins
Hosts Amanda Williams and Vishak Vikranth interview Dr. Melanie Higgins, an assistant professor and researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding bacterial processes to improve human health, specifically the mechanisms by which commensal bacteria interact with host glycans in the gastrointestinal tract and how natural products are biologically synthesized by determining the structure-function relationships of the individual biosynthetic enzymes. Dr. Higgins joined the University of Alabama in August of 2021. She received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2012 from the University of Victoria in Canada and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Adelaide in Australia from 2013-2014 and at the University of British Columba in Canada from 2015-2021.
