Terremoto in Abruzzo
Il 6 aprile 2009, un terremoto colpisce il territorio de l'Aquila. Centinaia di edifici crollano come castelli di sabbia e centinaia di persone perdono la vita sotto le macerie. È un duro colpo per il paese.<br /><br />La Protezione Civile è ormai matura e reagisce in tempi rapidi a questa emergenza. Anche da Città metropolitana di Milano partono dei volontari per portare aiuto e sollievo alla popolazione colpita.

Incidente di Vermicino
È la sera del 10 giugno 1981 quando Alfredo Rampi, 6 anni, – per tutti Alfredino – nel tragitto verso la casa di villeggiatura della famiglia, cade in un pozzo artesiano.<br /><br />Una volta resisi conto dell'accaduto e dato l'allarme, i genitori di Alfredino restarono sospesi in limbo di speranza e paura per 60 ore. Purtroppo invano. Accanto a loro l'intero Paese e una macchina dei soccorsi disorganizzata e incapace di gestire una simile emergenza. Nonostante i numerosi tentativi di salvarlo, il bambino morirà intrappolato i quel pozzo.<br /><br />Ancora oggi la tragedia di Vermicino è ricordata come una delle più tragiche sconfitte del sistema di soccorso.

Terremoto d'Irpinia
Il 23 novembre 1980 in Irpinia, un territorio della provincia di Avellino, una scossa di magnitudo 6.9 della scala Richter colpì 687 comuni provocando la morte di 2.914 persone.<br /><br /><br />I soccorsi tardarono ad arrivare per svariati motivi. Venne nominato Giuseppe Zamberletti quale Commissario del Governo incaricato del coordinamento dei soccorsi, ruolo già ricoperto 3 anni prima in occasione del terremoto del Friuli.<br /><br /><br />Giuseppe Zamberletti viene ricordato ancora oggi come il padre della moderna Protezione Civile italiana.<br /><br />
