محمد حسین بهجت تبریزی متخلص به شهریار در سال ۱۲۸۵ شمسی در تبریز به دنیا آمد. حساسیت شعری او بهعلاوه آشناییاش با موسیقی ایرانی در بهکارگیری قافیه درونی و واجآرایی ماهرانه او منعکس است و در نهایت باعث شد آهنگسازان و خوانندگان بزرگ زمان او از غزلهای شهریار (مثل غزل «حالا چرا؟») برای ساخت موسیقی و آهنگ بهره ببرند.
