Peg Peters and the Gathering Group Model for Psychedelic Group Therapy
In this episode of The Psychedelic Revolution, host Kyle sits down with special guest Peg Peters from the Gathering Group in Vancouver, Canada to dive deep into psychedelics, community healing models, and the ancient roots of plant medicine use.
Peg shares the innovative work the Gathering Group is doing, bringing people together into intimate cohorts that prepare for months before experiencing psilocybin mushrooms in a group ceremonial setting, and then integrating the experience together afterwards. He discusses how this model addresses the lack of resources in one-on-one therapy and allows healing to happen in a context of belonging and love.
Peg also opens up about his personal journey, from being an ordained evangelical minister to traveling the world and encountering the resilience of community, ritual and ceremony in places facing extreme hardship. This led him to psychedelics as tools for direct spiritual experience and individual wholeness.
Kyle and Peg then explore the ancient roots of psychedelic use, from the Eleusinian mysteries in Greece, to the indigenous Mazatec mushroom traditions of Mexico, and the current psychedelic renaissance. They discuss the importance of acknowledging indigenous wisdom and bringing these medicines forward in a spirit of reconciliation and respect.
This far-reaching conversation touches on reforming patriarchal Christianity, the divine feminine, enabling broad and equitable access to psychedelic healing, and the immense potential of community-based models as we navigate the future of the psychedelic revolution.
