Rooted - Preparing for the Heat of Life’s Crises - Ep 10

In this episode of Pulse Check In, Sam and Gracie explore what it means to live a rooted faith rather than a reactive one—especially when life suddenly feels overwhelming. From everyday moments like panic over a bus lane fine and a hire car dispute, to deeper reflections on anxiety, uncertainty, and decision-making, the conversation unpacks how easily we can spiral when pressure hits. They reflect on the story of Daniel in the lion’s den, not just as a dramatic Bible story, but as an example of someone whose faith was rooted long before the crisis came. What does it look like to build rhythms of faith, prayer, and trust in ordinary times so that we can stand steady in extraordinary ones? Along the way, they explore: The difference between reactive faith and rooted faith What it means to find peace in pressure, not just answers How anxiety can create mental “noise loops” and how naming what’s happening can help The role of preparation, rhythm, and spiritual habits Whether we are building “insulation” for the heatwaves of life or constantly scrambling for fans when crisis hits Honest reflections on purpose, insecurity, and stepping into new seasons They also reflect on how faith is not just about reacting well—but about being deeply grounded so we don’t lose ourselves when life heats up. This is a conversation about faith, pressure, peace, and what it means to stay rooted when everything else feels uncertain. Talking It Through - Somewhere between the peace and the panic - Ep 9

This week on Pulse Check In, Sam and Gracie sit down for an honest check-in about anxiety, uncertainty, purpose, and learning to trust God when life feels unsettled. From spiralling thoughts and overthinking, to the emotional impact of change and not knowing what comes next, this episode explores what it means to hold onto peace in the middle of uncertainty. They also talk about a brand new community storytelling project supporting people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s — exploring how story, memory, belonging, and community can help people feel seen, valued, and connected. In this episode: Breaking cycles of worry and anxiety The power of naming what you’re feeling Purpose, identity, and change Trusting God in uncertain seasons Imposter syndrome and stepping into new dreams Dementia, Alzheimer’s, and the power of story Creating spaces where people feel known and heard Finding rest and peace in community If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, uncertain about the future, or struggled to quiet your mind, this conversation is a reminder that you don’t have to carry it alone. 🎧 Listen now and subscribe to Pulse Check In for honest conversations about faith, mental wellbeing, purpose, and everyday life.

The Guilt of Doing Nothing - Rest Is Innate (We Just Forgot) - Ep 8

What does real rest actually look like — especially in a world that celebrates being busy? In this special May Bank Holiday episode of Pulse Check In, we slow things down and explore the deeper meaning of rest — beyond just putting your feet up. From marathon training to mental health, we unpack the tension between rest and productivity, and why so many of us feel guilty when we stop. We reflect on the rhythms of races like the London and Paris Marathons, and how rest isn’t just important — it’s essential for endurance, performance, and life. But this conversation goes further: what if rest isn’t something you earn, but something you were designed for? Together, we explore: Why rest is not a reward, but part of your design The surprising truth that God rested The pressure of “busy culture” and the idolatry of always being on the go Whether doom scrolling is actually rest (or just distraction) The difference between sleep and true soul rest How to rest through community, friendship, and being fully yourself And the big question: do you believe you were created good — even before you achieved anything? Whether you're recovering from a race, heading into a bank holiday reset, or just feeling worn out, this episode is your invitation to pause, breathe, and rediscover a healthier rhythm. 🎧 Take a moment. From playing brass for hours at mile 11 to helping young people thrive in the classroom, Jonathan shares how faith, family, and purpose fuel everything he does. What’s My Age Again? - Biological Age, Loneliness & Why Community Might Keep You Young - Ep 6.

In this episode of Pulse Check, Sam and Gracie ask a surprisingly big question: what does it really mean to age well? Inspired by the podcast “What’s My Age Again?”, they explore the difference between chronological age and biological age — and how lifestyle, stress, faith, and community can all impact the way our bodies age. Along the way they share funny stories about getting ID’d, questionable Woolworths shopping experiences, and the mystery of Colin the Caterpillar birthday cakes. But beneath the humour lies a deeper conversation about loneliness, belonging, hope, and why faith and community might be more powerful for our health than we realise. From worship music and prayer to forgiveness and gratitude, Sam and Gracie unpack how spiritual practices can reduce stress, build connection, and give us hope — even in life’s hardest moments. This episode is a reminder that ageing isn’t just about the number of candles on the cake… it’s about the health of your heart, your mind, and your community. Take a beat and join the conversation. Wolf Run - The Courage to Keep Going - Ep 4

You don’t need the perfect shoes, you don’t need all the answers, you just need to keep moving — and not do it alone. Progress might feel slow, it might feel muddy but stopping is the only way to stay stuck. The tough times getting you further than you could have imagined or even noticed. What happens when you train for one thing… and turn up to something completely different? In this episode of Pulse Check In, Gracie shares the story of being unknowingly signed up for a Wolf Run — a brutal, muddy, obstacle-packed challenge that turns a simple 10K into a lesson about doubt, adaptability, and community. From slipping through mud with the wrong shoes on, to relying on strangers to get through impossible obstacles, this conversation explores what it means to keep moving when life gets messy, how faith shows up in unexpected places, and why we’re never meant to face the hardest moments alone. Expect laughter, honest reflections on mental health and burnout, and a reminder that sometimes progress isn’t fast — it’s just faithful.
