Episode 6: Black Bootblacks
We have been all about celebrating black kinkiness and this week is no exception. This week the pups sat down with Daija, A black femme bootblack, to talk all about the craft. We talk to Daija about her experiences as a black bootblack (say that five times fast), and we talk about some of the challenges that black people, and femmes can face on the stand. We also dive into the term “Vest Bias,” and how it can affect people who want to engage in community. Finally we talk about Black leather style, and how young people are putting together amazing outfits and fashion on a budget. More about Daijah: Daijah Flames (pronounced Day-Jah) is a bootblack based in NJ and originally from NY. Daijah is a member of Onyx Pearls NY NE and is a leather middle. Daijah is known for both her skills as a budding fire top and bootblack. Daijah has bootblacked at spaces such as Folsom Street East, Submit NYC, Low Key Kink, Sanctuary Events, IMsLBB, SheMagik Events, The ColosseumNY, NJ Leather Family Beer Bust and Westcoast Bound 2024. Daijah has a special love for suede and nubuck care as she wants all materials to experience the love of a bootblack, even those considered a little bratty such as herself. She does her best to expand her knowledge to many kinds of materials and shares her skills with others on her TikTok channel. When Daijah is not bootblacking she loves traveling, watching movies and YouTube, hosting munches, and spending time with loved ones. She is bubbly, pansexual, panromantic, polyamorous, and always down to be your demo bottom. Episode 4: Black Men in Leather and BDSM
It’s Black History Month, and we at Pups Podcast could not be happier. This is a month to celebrate the rich history of black people all over, look into our past, and look forward at what is to come. This week the Pups were honored to have legendary educator, leatherman, and all around great person Sir Guy on the podcast. We talk about the history of black leathermen and the contributions they made and continue to make in our networks. We also talk about some educators we find inspiring, and get some advice on being black in the lifestyle. For more about Sir Guy, here is his Bio: Welcome. I am Sir Guy DeBrownsville, (pronouns: he/him) known in the BDSM and Leather community as Sir Guy. I am a Leatherman. I am a Dominant man and a covered Leather Master. I am a proud of my history, my culture and my heritage as a Black Man. I am a BDSM activist and educator. I am a historian of sorts, particularly when it comes to my culture both in and outside of this alternative lifestyle. It is my goal to educate people about the so-called "alternative lifestyle" called BDSM in order to remove some of the stigma behind it, to transcend the misinformation about it and to support those for whom this lifestyle has appeal. I seek to help those who practice it keep in mind the safety of themselves and those with whom they interact, to do so mindfully and intelligently and to insure that it is all done via mutual consent without forgetting it should be fun and enjoyable for all involved. I also seek to intelligently explain and educate in order to remove misconceptions and misinterpretations. It is my wish to remind them that this lifestyle is not a utopia nor is it a panacea. Those within it did not spring forth from Wakanda, come down from Mount Olympus, nor did they ascend from Atlantis. They come out of this world and they bring along with the all of the positive and negative aspects of the societies from which they came.
