The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare, Part 4

The Lake Waco Murders case reaches its most explosive chapter yet.

In Episode 4 of Pure Malice: The Lake Waco Murders, we follow the unraveling of one of Texas's most controversial murder prosecutions. After teaching himself the law from death row, Muneer Deeb accomplishes what few inmates ever have—successfully overturning his own conviction and winning a new trial. Meanwhile, David Spence's legal team uncovers allegations of Brady violations, recanting witnesses, questionable jailhouse informant testimony, and growing concerns about the forensic evidence that helped send him to death row.

As retrials and appeals move forward, key witnesses begin backing away from their original statements, law enforcement officials voice doubts about the convictions, and independent experts challenge the bite mark evidence that remained central to the state's case. Yet despite mounting questions, David Spence remains on death row as the clock toward execution continues ticking.

The episode also explores the murder of Juanita White, Detective Jan Price's relentless pursuit of the truth, and the DNA evidence that ultimately identified Benny Carroll as her killer years after innocent men had been convicted. As old investigations are reexamined, troubling questions emerge about tunnel vision, prosecutorial conduct, wrongful convictions, and whether the search for justice was overshadowed by the need to secure convictions.

From overturned convictions and death row appeals to DNA breakthroughs and lingering suspicions, this chapter reveals how far-reaching the consequences can be when the truth remains hidden for decades.

🎙️ Remember... it's not just true crime. The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare, Part 3

David Spence never stopped saying he was innocent.

Even after the headlines and his conviction. Even after the system had already decided who he was and what he had done, David continued to proclaim that he had no part in the murders of Jill Montgomery, Raylene Rice, or Kenneth Franks.

But he wasn’t the only one fighting.

In Part 3 of The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare, we shift into one of the most haunting turns in this case: the story of David’s mother, Juanita White. She believed in her son’s innocence with everything she had, and she became one of his loudest advocates. She pushed, questioned, gathered information, and refused to quietly accept the version of events Waco had been handed.

Then Juanita was murdered.

Her death opened the door to another case, another investigation, and another set of convictions. But beneath the surface, something wasn’t sitting right. Not with everyone, including some inside Waco law enforcement.

As questions began to build, a side investigation started digging deeper into the way Juanita’s murder case had been handled. And what began as quiet doubt eventually turned into an official investigation, exposing disturbing concerns about the methods used to secure convictions not only in Juanita White’s murder, but in the Lake Waco Murders case itself.

Informants. Pressure. Testimony. Deals. Recanted confessions. And a justice system that may have been more interested in closing cases than finding the truth.

This episode is where the ground starts to shift.

Because by Part 3, the question is no longer just whether the men convicted were guilty.

It’s whether Waco got the truth at all.

🎙️ Remember... it's not just true crime. It's Pure Malice.

📌 Don’t forget to:💬 Comment and tell us your thoughts about the case.🔔 Follow for more true crime & paranormal deep dives.

© 2025 Pure Malice/Nix. The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare, Part 2

The Lake Waco Murders investigation takes a darker turn in Part 2.

After the bodies of Jill Montgomery, Raylene Rice, and Kenneth Franks were discovered near Lake Waco in July 1982, the autopsy findings began raising even more questions. The evidence pointed to a violent, personal, and deeply disturbing crime scene, but this case was far from simple.

In this episode, we pick up with the autopsy findings and follow the investigation as attention turns toward Muneer Deeb, David Spence, Gilbert Melendez, and eventually, Toni Melendez.

What started as a brutal triple murder soon became a case built around alleged motives, informant testimony, forensic questions, and a prosecution that would eventually lead to convictions in the Lake Waco Murder case.

But by the end of Part 2, you’ll see just how complicated this case really is, and how the convictions were only the beginning of another chapter in the Lake Waco Murders story.

Was justice served? Or did the investigation take a turn that would leave behind even more unanswered questions?

This is Part 2 of The Lake Waco Murders: A Local Nightmare.

📌 Don’t forget to:

💬 Comment and tell us your thoughts about the case.

🔔 Follow for more true crime & paranormal deep dives.

© 2025 Pure Malice/Nix.
