Queer Projection

About Queer Projection

This is a movie podcast about finding queer themes damn near everywhere. Hosts Alethia St. Joan and Danny Carroll share a 30+ year friendship that has been bound together by a shared love for movies. A trans woman and a gay man respectively, Alethia and Danny explore what these movies meant to them while they were young and closeted, and what revisiting these movies means for the actualized, arguably maladjusted adults they’ve become. It’s a heady, often crass and sometimes crude blend - part nostalgia trip, part queer theory, part film criticism. Check it out!

   Taxi Driver

You talkin to us? This week we climb into Travis Bickle's cab and ask a now common refrain - what the hell is wrong with men? Our very first Martin Scorsese flick on this pod is going to try and help us answer that question. Enjoy!

   2001: A Space Odyssey

Two men alone on a spaceship for months with only an AI diva for company. Plus a creepy starbaby, and a bunch of people in ape costumes using the Meisner technique as best they can. That's right, we're covering our first Kubrick masterpiece this week! But really, how gay is HAL 9000? Open the pod bay doors and find out. Enjoy!

   Bonus: Ed Wood

Pull on your softest angora. This week we're taking on Tim Burton's strangest movie, which is saying a lot considering it's Tim Burton. BONUS Episode, considering there's LOTS of queer stuff in this one.
