Out of our desire to creatively combine diverse perspectives into a new integral worldview, Radio evolve opens up spaces of understanding and encounter to inspire us to a more conscious life. Annette Kaiser, Thomas Hübl, Ervin Laszlo, Prof. Thomas Görnitz, Claus Eurich and many others have joined us so far. We now have over 300 episodes (in German) on philosophy and mysticism, progressive spirituality, science and transcendence, society and cultural policy, ecology and development – and they are all available for you to listen to and download from our archive. Starting at the beginning of 2018, Radio evolve includes English-language programming. Every other week the program is in English with guests from around the world. The Not-Yet Universe

What wants to emerge as our possible Future? For many years, John F. Haught was Research Professor of Theology at Georgetown University. Inspired by the insights of the Jesuit priest and scientist Teilhard de Chardin, he studied the philosophical and spiritual significance of our Universe story as an evolutionary unfolding. In his view, our Universe is unfinished. By tuning into the Not-Yet—the possibilities that are still seeking to emerge in our human and cosmic unfolding—we can awaken to a deep, life-affirming hope. This hope is not rooted in something already known, but in the potential for new capacities and new ways of being human together that we can co-create. In our conversation, we speak about the significance of cosmological evolution for religion, the concept of time and the future of the Universe, the role of Omega in theology, religious identity in the context of scientific discoveries, and what Einstein and Teilhard might have spoken about if they had met.

Facing the Hungry Ghosts – How can we awaken to our deep interconnectedness?

Andy Rotman is a professor in the Religion Department and Buddhist Studies program at Smith College; he also spent long periods in India and studied with several Buddhist teachers. In this conversation for our evolve Magazine with the title “Living with Light and Shadow” we speak about the Buddhist view of light and dark forces or qualities in the human person. In this context the teaching of the hungry ghosts is particular interesting for Andy Rottman: “The teaching of hungry ghosts within the contexts of Buddhism gives us a case study on how humans can be overcome. Early Buddhists talk about the idea of mat-sarya, double meanness. It's meanness of being stingy and clinging to one's possessions, but it manifests in the meanness that is cruelty and spite. They link those two together. They rise up and then we latch on. The goal of the practice is to not latch on.” In this view of forces that can overcome us, compassion is fundamental: “That’s why Buddhism starts with the principle of compassion. We're always struggling as humans; we are mumbling through and we're all in it together. There's this strong sense of interconnectedness. And maybe I can help someone just a little bit when I extend my compassion and wisdom to help them follow a better path. That also helps me follow a better path. Once you realize that you're part of a collective, if you can help someone else, then you're also helping yourself.” From this truth of connectedness, a new way of being with each other and with the world opens up: “If we could imprint our brains and discipline ourselves into a different way of being in the world in recognizing the interconnectivity of beings, recognizing that beings at times can be overcome and recognizing that there are ways of cultivating the sensibility for sharing and charity, we could combat those forces and live in a less divisive world.”

   The Power of Imagination

William Blake and the Re-Enchantment of the World Mark Vernon is a psychotherapist and author; he wrote books about Spiritual Intelligence, Dante, Owen Barfield and the evolution of Christianity, and in his new, highly acclaimed work, about the poet, painter and mystic William Blake. But his book “Awake! William Blake and the Power of the Imagination” is not just a biography or reflection on Blake’s work, it is following the artists inquiry into what he called “Divine Imagination”. For Blake, imagination was not merely an individual capacity that we have access to in our own mind, but rather we exist in the wholeness of a spiritual world filled with imagination. Mark Vernon says about Blake’s relevance for today’s world: “Like us, Blake lived in a tumultuous era of warfare, discontent, rapid technological change, and a deepening estrangement of humanity from nature. He exposed the dark sides of political fervour and social moralising, while unashamedly celebrating love and liberty. But he also conversed with prophets and angels, and was powerfully, if unconventionally, religious. If we take this seriously—not easy, in secular times—then Blake can help us to unlock the transformative power of imagination, key to his importance in today’s world.” In this episode of Radio evolve we speak with Mark Vernon about a deeper understanding of imagination and its relevance for our time.
