Postpartum well-being isn’t just about physical recovery; it’s a transformative phase packed with identity shifts, emotional hurdles, and mental struggles. This week on Raising Parents: The Parenting Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella interviews postnatal researcher Talia Ritondo, M.A., PhD(c) to learn more. Talia Ritondo, M.A., PhD(c) is a 3rd (going into 4th) year PhD Candidate at the University of Ottawa. While she’s not a parent herself, Talia Ritondo, M.A., PhD(c) is extremely passionate about advocating for pregnancy and parenting rights through her academic and activist work. Her undergraduate, master’s, and PhD research has focused on the physical activity experiences of pregnant, postpartum, and mothering women. Specifically, she’s examined how societal conceptions of motherhood influence physical activity engagement and access to physical activity in different contexts and at different levels. She’s also a co-founder of MOMentum, which is a non-profit organization that supports elite women athletes with family planning through resources, grants, and advocacy. In her spare time, Talia Ritondo, M.A., PhD(c) is a competitive beach volleyball player and board game enthusiast. In this episode, Talia Ritondo, M.A., PhD(c) sheds light on the importance of opening up discussions about postpartum health, as well as the various factors that may impact a mother’s postpartum well-being. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS.: How Screen Time Affects a Child's Vision | Raising Parents #95
In this episode of Raising Parents we dive into the topic of vision and how screen time, among other factors, can affect this. Guest Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. joins host Sarah Stancombe to explain the most common issues he sees in his clinic, and the changes he has observed over his career. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. graduated from the University of Montreal School of Optometry in 1986, where he also obtained his Master’s Degree in physiological optics. He also graduated in public health from the National School of Public Administration in Montreal in 2006. He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 1989, and Cornea and Contact Lens Diplomate since 1994. He is also Fellow of the scleral Contact Lens Organization since 2010 and Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association since 2013. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. is also a professor and practices at the University of Montreal since 2001, as the chief of the contact lens department. He also treats anterior segment diseases, and for more than 10 years was a visiting professor at Paris-Sud University. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as professional reviews. He is an author of more than 35 chapters of books edited in France. He has been invited to speak in Europe, Asia, and the US, and is a regular speaker at American Academy of Optometry and European Academy of Optometry meetings. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. is also the current president of the College of Optometrists of Quebec. In this episode, Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. explains how there are a multitude of factors affecting children’s eyesight today - not just using screens, but the distance at which they read and complete other activities, and the frequency at which they spend time outdoors. Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. recommends parents show children a good example, as they will watch and imitate behaviors. Together, Sarah and Dr. Langis Michaud OD. MS. discuss the way vision affects so many other aspects of life, such as the other senses, interpreting the world around you, and behavior such as concentration.
