Ramblings with Jay Finlayson is a Film and TV podcast hosted by someone who has spent over a decade working across major studio productions and high-end scripted television… and yet still manages to sound like he’s figuring it all out in real time.
This isn’t a polished, over-analysed breakdown of cinema. There are no overly serious critiques, no dramatic monologues about “the language of film,” and absolutely no pretending to have all the answers. Instead, it’s a running commentary from a film enthusiast who accidentally turned his passion into a career and now can’t switch it off, even when he probably should.
Across each episode, expect honest opinions, behind-the-scenes insight, and the kind of observations that only come from actually being on set mixed with tangents, overthinking, and the occasional moment of chaos It sits somewhere between film discussion, industry perspective, and an ongoing internal monologue that probably should’ve stayed internal. From new releases to older favourites, big-budget productions to overlooked gems, if it’s worth watching (or avoiding), it’ll come up eventually usually with a side of mild chaos.
There’s no gatekeeping here. No overcomplicated analysis. Just rambling about Films, TV, and whatever else comes to mind delivered by someone who’s been behind the scenes… but still talks like he’s sat on the sofa questioning everything.

Jay dives back into dinosaurs this time through the strange, nostalgic fever dream of Dinotopia (2002), where humans and talking dinosaurs somehow coexist in a perfectly civilised utopia.
From Lee Evans voicing a neurotic Stenonychosaurus to the science of extinction, evolution, and why birds are technically modern dinosaurs, this episode blends childhood memory with real-world palaeontology. Along the way, Jay asks the big question: if Dinotopia were real, could humans actually live alongside dinosaurs—or would it collapse into chaos faster than a Jurassic Park sequel?
Expect a mix of humour, science, and existential dread, covering everything from city planning with brachiosaurs to dinosaur ethics, modern ecology, and why we already live in a low-budget version of Dinotopia (we just call them pigeons).
It’s part nostalgia trip, part reality check and part reminder that if humans ever did share the world with giant prehistoric creatures, we’d probably find a way to make it weird.

After vanishing in October 2020 and confidently promising a return in summer 2022 (which went… brilliantly), Jay has finally re-emerged on 3rd July 2026 with something resembling a podcast again. Expect film and TV chat, behind-the-scenes insight, mispronounced words, forgotten hearing aids, and the ongoing confusion of someone who’s worked in the industry for over a decade… yet still sounds like he’s winging it in real time.

SOMEHOW… I’M BACK
After disappearing for six years, Jay Finlayson returns with the most on-brand comeback possible, no plan, no structure, and far too much to explain. From grief and burnout to joining the ambulance service (for reasons still unclear), getting married, and slowly finding his way back to film, this is a chaotic, honest reset.
Season 2 kicks off with a mix of self-awareness, and the real story behind the silence. It’s messy, it’s unfiltered, and it’s probably the most accurate reintroduction you’re going to get.

Torture porn is a name given to a genre of films that exploits violence and torture of the film characters for satisfaction of the antagonist, but can it also be used as stereotypical porn? In this episode I use Adam Rehmeier's 2012 The Bunny Game as an example of similar films that are boarding pornographic material.
