Each character has such a distinct way of speaking. There's a Skeeter with her progressive views wrapped in Southern manners. Then there's Aibileen's wisdom that's as rich as her tone and of course, Minnie's sass and strength. So I think the author has really nailed the nuances of each personality. The way Shelley talks about this grand old statue of an emperor in ruins with his line look on my works, ye mighty, and despair, followed by a vivid description of an empty, desolate desert, really hits home about how nothing lasts forever. I think it's such a profound and haunting reminder of the fleeting nature of power and legacy and our own impermanence, and it definitely moves me to tears every time I read it.</i>"
