[…] That was low-power FM. And that was partly to combat the media consolidation that was going on. And it was also to provide a legal means of doing what many people were doing illegally, which was having pirate radio stations. And so when that opportunity came up in 2000, the founder of the radio station, Lupita Flores, had the foresight and the drive to pursue it. And there were a lot of hurdles and a lot of red tape to get through. And somehow he managed to bring this to fruition. One of the biggest reasons that he wanted to bring this to Spokane was to bring Democracy Now! on the airwaves. And we still run that twice a day. […]
