[…] And they have this concept of kaitiakitanga, which is this idea of guardianship. You know, your responsibility is to protect nature for future generations. And so it's a really interesting kind of worldview conceptual shift that I think is useful for lots of us in the global north. to understand. And they did make that real. So in 2017, the Whanganui River was given personhood. Absolutely. So the Whanganui River has got legal personhood, but importantly, it's the sort of governance arrangements around it. So Māori then have representation on a sort of governance framework for how decisions are made and therefore how it's used. […]
