Welcome to Read & Roast, the podcast where some friends embark on a wild ride through the pages of books—one chapter at a time!
Each season, we dive into a different book and bring our own hilarious, irreverent spin to the story. From witty banter and outrageous commentary to deep (and sometimes goofy) insights, we roast every book we read—while still giving it the attention it deserves. Whether it’s a timeless classic or a new release, no page goes unturned. And don’t worry, we’ll keep you laughing along the way.
In this emotional season finale of Read & Roast, Jimmy, Curtis, and Shira dive into Chapter 11 of Echoes of Fate—“Between Life and Legacy”—and find themselves navigating some of the heaviest, most life-affirming moments in Assim’s story.
As Assim nears the edge of life, the chapter becomes a powerful reflection on mortality, meaning, and memory. The hosts explore the mental and physical toll of living on borrowed time, the surreal rhythms of hospital life, and the razor-thin line between resilience and resignation. They also discuss the psychological impact of medical environments, the absurdities of health inequity, and the odd comfort of hospital beeping—until it drives you mad.
But it’s not all existential dread—true to form, the gang somehow ends up discussing TV remotes that don’t work, emotional family stories (including the infamous cul-de-sac ankle incident), and a donkey-powered dental extraction gone wrong.
If you’ve ever wondered what really matters when everything else is stripped away, this episode hits hard—and stays with you long after it ends.

Chapter 10: Navigating Worlds Apart | S1-E10
In this episode of Read & Roast, Jimmy, Curtis, and Shira unpack Chapter 10 of Echoes of Fate—and somehow end up talking about everything from luxury donkeys to ghost actors. No, seriously.
As Assim recovers in a Polish hospital, he finds a rare moment of peace—hooked up to heart monitors, surrounded by loved ones, and finally getting some sleep. But just when things start to calm down, his memories take us back to Darfur, where TVs didn’t work but were still proudly displayed like status symbols, and where watching Bruce Lee powered by a car battery was the event of the decade.
The gang cracks up over childhood movie confusion (why is the guy who died last night in this movie too?!), the hype over a majestic donkey breed, and the culture shock that comes from living between wildly different worlds. It’s a story about growing up, shifting dreams, and finding joy in the little things—even when life feels heavy.

Chapter 9: The Fake Color | S1-E9
In this calming yet deeply contemplative episode of Read & Roast, Jimmy, Curtis, and Shira dive into Chapter 9 of Echoes of Fate, where the contrast between luxury and mortality takes center stage. Titled The Fake Color, this chapter unpacks the strange peace Assim finds in a pristine, private hospital room—a space so serene, it feels more like a high-end resort than a place to battle heart failure.
The hosts explore the chapter’s rich themes: the aesthetics of healing spaces, the unexpected joy of simplicity, and the strange human ability to find comfort even while facing death. Assim reflects on his minimalist lifestyle, his aversion to celebrations, and the bittersweet tranquility of modern solitude. A wild detour into Norway’s humane prison system sparks a surprising conversation about what true freedom really feels like.

Chapter 8: The Dual Dance | S1-E8
In this deeply human—and occasionally hilarious—episode of Read & Roast, Jimmy, Curtis, and Shira take on Chapter 8 of Echoes of Fate, titled The Dual Dance. This chapter plunges us into the liminal space between life and death, certainty and chaos, as the protagonist faces yet another medical verdict with gut-wrenching stakes and a flicker of hope.
With a heart that’s failing and time running out, a new doctor enters the scene—Dr. Andrzej—and with him, a complicated chance at survival. What unfolds is a whirlwind of emotional confrontation, experimental procedures, and the surreal irony that a butt pimple (yes, you read that right) could derail a life-saving heart surgery.
The hosts dive into the philosophical weight of mortality, the absurdity of medical bureaucracy, and the resilience it takes to keep going when life keeps dealing low blows. Expect raw honesty, spirited discussion, and plenty of off-the-cuff laughs—from a serious debate about systemic infections to a surprisingly moving reflection on family, courage, and the will to fight.
And of course, they roast everything from Polish soap operas and overconfident surgeons to the very idea that a skin bump could become a main character in a life-or-death story.

From Skepticism to a Glimmer of Hope: A Medical Odyssey in Warsaw
In Episode 2 of the Read & Roast Podcast, we continue our deep dive into Echoes of Fate: From Rebirth to the Last Heartbeats, and this time, our protagonist is trading skepticism for hope—sort of.
After receiving a grim diagnosis in Erbil, our narrator isn't convinced. He chalks it up to outdated medical practices, a dubious doctor, and maybe a sprinkle of his own stubborn denial. But if there’s one thing that can shake his confidence, it’s the weight of a second opinion. In Journey of Hope in Warsaw, he lands in Poland with one goal: to prove the first doctor wrong.
Join us as we break down the highs, the lows, and the dark humor that makes this chapter an emotional rollercoaster.

Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End (S1-E1)
A Doctor, a Death Sentence, and a Rotten Tomato Heart
In the very first episode of the Read & Roast Podcast, we’re diving into Echoes of Fate: From Rebirth to the Last Heartbeats—and right out of the gate, Chapter 1 gives us a doctor who lacks bedside manner, a protagonist who takes sarcasm to new heights, and a heart described as a “rotten tomato.”
In The Beginning of the End, our narrator finds himself sitting across from a sweat-drenched doctor who, in the most casual way possible, tells him he’s going to die—soon. As if that wasn’t dramatic enough, the doctor also throws in a bonus diagnosis: two fractured ribs from excessive coughing. (Medical science, what’s good?) What follows is a blend of existential dread, dry humor, and the protagonist questioning if this is his fate… or just really bad luck.
