Why Lisa loves this book This book took me entirely by surprise. It had been recommended by a trusted friend, so one winter break I listened to it on audiobook during my daily walks. And at certain points, anyone who passed me on my walks would have seen tears streaming down my face. It is a deceptively quaint and simple story set in the countryside of 19 th century England that is densely packed with insights into the human soul and – when all is said and done – devastatingly sweet.
