Life After the Hamster Wheel: Leadership, Reinvention & Real Estate with Cheryl Knowlton

What happens when you've built a successful career but realize your next chapter isn't about doing more, it's about becoming more? In this episode of Real Estate Real World, we sit down with Cheryl Knowlton—nationally recognized real estate speaker, broker, author, coach, and industry leader, for an honest conversation about leadership, resilience, and redefining success beyond production and performance. Together, Marguerite and Cheryl explore the realities many professionals quietly experience from burnout and identity shifts to the empty nest season, personal growth, and learning to build a business that supports your life instead of consuming it. Cheryl shares the lessons she's learned through decades in real estate, completing 33 half marathons, speaking around the world, and embracing the courage to step confidently into life's next chapter. Whether you're a real estate professional, entrepreneur, or someone navigating change, this episode is a reminder that success isn't measured only by what you build—but by the life you create along the way. In this episode, we talk about: • The business lessons Cheryl learned from completing 33 half marathons • Why consistency beats motivation every time • Burnout, boundaries, and creating a business that supports your life • The importance of surrounding yourself with people who believe in you • Navigating the empty nest season and rediscovering your identity • Social media professionalism and authentic leadership • Why your next chapter can become your most meaningful one If you're building a business, navigating a major life transition, or simply looking for a fresh perspective on success, this conversation will encourage you to embrace your next chapter with purpose, confidence, and intention. The Open House Strategy That Built a Top 1% Agent

I'm joined by the dynamic Cyndy Silva. Cindy is a multi-Icon eXp agent and the founder of the Cyndy Silva Realty Group, brokered by eXp Realty of California Cyndy has more than 25 years of experience in the housing industry and brings a rare, full-spectrum understanding of real estate from the ground up. I learned that her background includes working on the construction side of the industry. She worked for a glass shop called Oldtown Glass in Marin County, where they worked for celebrities. We talked about how she did work for Andre Agassi and George Lucas. Cyndy is also a graduate of Harvard Business School's mastery and negotiation program. Cyndy, who ranks in the top 1% of agents, discusses her journey from the construction industry to becoming a top agent. She offers valuable tips for new agents, emphasizing the importance of giving 110%, being comfortable in front of strangers, and how open houses are a powerful way to build a database. Cyndy also shared her strategy for open houses and client engagement, including: Not pressuring people for anything in an open house. Welcoming people first. Starting a conversation that has nothing to do with real estate, such as asking if they are "familiar with this neighborhood". Giving clients a "pop by" item that is tangible and has her name on it, like hand sanitizer, which can be purchased for pennies after a holiday sale. Never leaving an open house early, as often the biggest clients come in at the last minute.
