Can Quilting Help DC Become The 51st State?

There's been a lot of work done on DC Statehood. Where marching, petitioning, campaigning and Congressional hearings have all fallen short so far, could a grassroots group of quilters help stitch together support? "For many years the only voice women had in this country was their needle and thread." Barbara Garlock founded Quilts4DC to build support across the country and inform that more than 700,000 fellow Americans don't have a say in Congress. The initiative has sparked quilts from across the country and conversations among bipartisan members of the League of Women Voters. Former Capitol Police Officer Picks Up His Paint Brush

As the country marks the first anniversary of the Insurrection on January 6th, Tommy chats with Winston Pingeon, a former member of the Capitol Police. Winston was at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and fought for hours with his fellow officers. He was injured by physical violence and sprayed with what he described as bear and pepper spray. In the months after January 6th, he started painting to tell his story and to heal. Listen to his journey through art. Superstars will be a part of the upcoming "VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World." Jennifer Lopez, H.E.R., J. Balvin, and the Foo Fighters are just a few artists who will take part. Selena Gomez will host. According to the concert organizers Global Citizen, "VAX LIVE aims to inspire vaccine confidence worldwide and help get the COVID-19 vaccines to everyone, everywhere." The event will also serve as a fundraising event encouraging businesses and philanthropists to donate "dollars for doses" of the COVID vaccine. The concert will happen on May 8th at 8:00 pm Eastern. You'll be able to see it on multiple television networks and streaming platforms.
