Last week we talked about the benefit of giving honor. This week we have to talk about what happens when receiving it goes wrong.
Honor becomes dangerous the moment recognition shifts from something received with gratitude to something expected as a right. When a title becomes an identity. When appreciation becomes entitlement. When every disagreement starts to feel like an act of rebellion.
In Part Two of this series, we open Matthew 23, Mark 10, and 1 Timothy 5 to examine what Jesus said about leaders who loved the prominent seat, the public greeting, and the title more than the people they were called to serve. And then we turn it inward, because that temptation does not stop at the pulpit. It reaches into homes, workplaces, and anywhere influence is carried.

So what happens after the appreciation service? Does honor fit inside a card? Does it end when the music stops?
In Part One of this series, we open Scripture to show that honor is not a moment. It is a continuing posture of the heart that shapes how we listen, how we receive, how we work together, and how we sustain the ministry God has placed among us.
Along the way, this message draws a line that too few people talk about: the difference between serving and being subservient. Jesus picked up a towel and washed His disciples’ feet. But He never surrendered His identity. True service flows from love and strength, not from fear of losing acceptance or belonging.

No Limits: Pastors Cleve and Sherita
Honor is one of the most misunderstood principles in the body of Christ. We reduce it to a title or a gesture. But in Scripture, honor is a kingdom flow — and when it gets dammed up anywhere, everybody feels it.
And at the center of this message sits one of the most overlooked figures in all of Scripture: Jabez.
His mother named him Sorrow Maker. His identity was written in pain before he ever had a chance to live. But the text says something remarkable: Jabez was honorable above his brothers. Not because of his circumstances. Not because of his name. But because of what he did with both.
He cried out to the God of Israel. He believed God could revoke the sentence attached to his life. He was humble enough to admit he needed help and bold enough to actually ask. That combination of humility and bold dependence is exactly what Scripture calls honorable.
