Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in around 1818 and rose to become one of America's most prominent figures in the Abolition movement.
But did you know how famous he became in Britain and Ireland, thanks to his successful 1845-7 tour? After Charlie gives us a run down of his origins and escape from slavery, Ellie gives us some insight on the impact African American campaigners like Fred would have had on the British public.

The Peterloo Massacre Part two
Following from last week's episode on the Peterloo Massacre, Ellie and Charlie follow the events of the day itself, focusing on some of the victims and survivors and discussing how women were disproportionately targeted by soldiers.

People risked their lives in the past to go on strike and demand changes that we take for granted today, so we discuss the decline of Trade Unions today and why it's so important to keep them.
