Teil der Stabilisierungsarbeit von traumatisierten Menschen sind neben den Distanzierungs- die Imaginations-Übungen. Sie ermöglichen, dass die Gedanken einmal Urlaub von den belastenden wiederkehrenden Bildern und dem damit verbundenen Stress machen können. Dies hilft zum einen dabei, sich im Alltag besser zurecht zu finden und mit unangenehmen Situationen besser zurecht zu kommen. Zum anderen sinkt es das allgemeine Stress-Level, die Übererregung, unter der einige mit einer Traumafolgestörung leiden. Gerade nach der Psychotherapie oder auch nach einer Gerichtsverhandlung wird die Tresor-Übung zum Wegpacken und Distanzieren häufig als sehr hilfreich empfunden.
