[…] So we got a lot of bike trails that'll never become railroads again. And we lost a lot of small town elevators and fertilizers, companies and agriculture related businesses in particular that they needed the railroad to ship on. And absent that, the trucking costs were too expensive and too unwieldy. So they just went away, which is pretty unfortunate. You asked me to explain my background. I hope I covered most of the bases there, but When I was in the legislature for 12 years, I was the only person who ever actually worked on a railroad. So the railroads all figured they had at least somebody who understood their issues and beat a path to my door. […]
