About Reconnection: The Sustainable Fashion Week Podcast
A series dedicated to exploring sustainable fashion practices and fostering a positive relationship with clothing. If you could only pick 3 items from your wardrobe to wear for the rest of your life, what would they be and why? We'll be inviting guests to rummage through their drawers and closets to find the garments which mean the most to them and their bodies. We'll be exploring the stories behind these pieces... why they're important, what memories they provoke, who they connect the guest to, what they feel like on the body and what identity they help shape for the wearer. With a background as a professional stylist, she brings a sharp eye for design and a genuine passion for helping audiences embrace a more sustainable way of life. Louise Gookey is a lifestyle presenter and journalist who is passionate about sustainability and conscious consumerism. Her journey into sustainability began after discovering the environmental impact of fast fashion, which sparked a deeper curiosity about consumerism and how we can make more thoughtful choices without harming the planet. Louise has presented for BBC Good Food, The Ideal Home Show, The Natural and Organic Beauty Expo, Global Radio and Move IQ, and has hosted a wide range of events, including the World Fashion Awards, The European Natural Beauty Awards, The National Reality TV Awards and The National Film Awards. Sustainable Fashion Week has teamed up with presenter Louise Gookey (https://louisegookey.co.uk/) to launch a podcast series exploring our relationship with fashion and how we can positively reconnect with how we buy, wear, care and dispose of our clothing. In this bonus episode Louise chairs a LIVE panel discussion which took place during our podcast launch event, hosted at Lots Road Auctions. The panel was titled 'One Person's Treasure: the value of vintage and how it can save us'. In this first episode Louise interviews Dr Brett Staniland, exploring his fascinating journey from scientist to model to TV star to becoming a powerful voice calling for change in the fashion industry. Brett is a model turned sustainable fashion campaigner. He’s an advocate for a slower, more responsible fashion industry and works across many platforms to raise awareness and educate consumers as an expert in the field. In 2021 he became the first contestant on Love Island to reject the fast fashion sponsorship and helped influence the shift toward preloved clothing. Whilst still modelling he also works as a creator, editor, consultant and speaker, covering issues in the fashion industry, innovative solutions and the fashion week circuits.
