Match Day 5 - Don't Need To Discuss Much
Four matches, one win, and the only clean piece of work now feels oddly distant. Sabah were eventually put away with the expected difference in quality, Sesko and Mbeumo scored, and the Champions League campaign began without alarm. Everything since has been harder to explain. City went down to ten men at Old Trafford and still dictated the terms, while Brighton overturned a two-goal deficit in a defeat almost unique in its capacity to irritate.
Fulham leaves United stuck with the same uncomfortable question. The best of this side may be good enough, but how often does it appear, and why is the opposition still allowed to decide what kind of match will be played? Carrick has attacking options and moments of real quality. What he does not yet have is a team capable of imposing itself, managing danger and resisting the old urge to replace thought with panic.
