The Red Tree Pod is a bi-weekly podcast hosted by Davis Johnson, Chris Wachter, and Laura Rinas. It's brought to you by Red Tree, a multi-church ministry seeking to connect the clarity of God's grace to our otherwise confusing lives and attempts at reading the Bible.

Davis survives the plague, Chris gets his van keyed, and Laura warms up by a bonfire while the three trace surprising threads of grace from a Canaanite prostitute to an Ethiopian treasurer. They consider whether the scarlet cord really points to Jesus, how to move from the seen to the unseen realm, and explore how grace breaks into lives that seem far from reach.
Red Tree Readings: Joshua 2; Acts 8:26–40
This week’s “BUT WHAT ABOUT” Passage: Joshua 5 (Angel of the Lord)

E35 You Can't Buy This
Chris, Laura, and Davis wade into Leviticus 20 and Acts 8, diving into food laws, spiritual power grabs, and Simon the Magician’s awkward altar call moment. Is he a fraud or just deeply confused? Either way, his story exposes just how hard it is to receive the gift of grace when you’re used to earning everything. Also: sanctification—is it easy or impossible? Augustine says yes.
Red Tree Readings: Leviticus 20:22–27; Acts 8:1–8
This week’s “BUT WHAT ABOUT” Passage: Acts 8:9–25 (Simon the Sorcerer)

E34 The Mystery of Manna
Davis manages to turn Chris and Laura’s holiday highs into lows and they unpack the mysterious story of manna in Exodus 16, connect it to Stephen’s fiery speech in Acts 7, and wrestle with the hard-hitting warnings of Hebrews 10. What does it mean to trust God when grace doesn’t look the way we expect? How do we avoid standing in resistance to His work in our lives? This episode brings ancient truths into today’s messy realities, offering hope for every wilderness we face.
