The Posture of Soul Winners
The Posture of Soul Winners
Text: 2 Timothy 2:20-26
“Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.”
2 Timothy 2:20-26 NASB1995
Summary:

3. A Soul-Winner Must Be Dependent on God (v. 25-26)

Focus of Worship
If cats have nine lives as the old wife’s tale suggests, many
church goers would have to admit that they have at least
two. There’s the life lived day after day in their workplace,
social circles, and family activities. And then there’s the life
lived at church; hands folded reverently, songs sung softly,
and their almost-new Bible in their lap.
The truth is, even people who don’t think about it that
way would have to admit there is some truth to that
description. Though such a life can be comfortable, it
doesn’t seem to rise to the abundant life Jesus promised
His disciples.
Worship—the way the Bible teaches it—changes this
paradigm. Once we understand that worship is more than
the songs we sing before the sermon or the offering we
give when the plates pass, the dots start connecting.
Life—the true abundant life we are called to live—awaits
those who will pursue a life of worship that connects our
pews to office cubicles and our houses to mission fields.
Our call to make disciples begins with a call to worship.
The journey starts right here.

God Requires that We Live Righteously
In Matthew 21:33-46 we see Jesus’ authority comes from the vineyard owner: God. God has been extremely patient with the Jewish leaders of his people, and these people have repeatedly rejected his disciples, prophets and messengers. God looks for Fruit, or life in obedience to the law, yet these leaders have not been producing it.
Now they are about to destroy the vineyard owner’s son, Jesus, because they think that this will lead to their ongoing authority over the people. But the owner of the vineyard will have the last word when he replaces these leaders with Jesus’ disciples who will produce fruit.
This parable is about the redemption. the prediction of Jesus death and resurrection. And how Jesus would rather have people who say no first and then obeys him afterwards rather than people who says yes to him but does the opposite instead. the landowner: God will replace the horrible defiant tenants with new tenants who will provide him with fruits and willing to obey Him.
Main idea:
We must live a fruitful life for God’s glory.
Outline:
Because life is loaned to us by God V.33-36
Because the defiant will be replaced V.37-41
Because God deserves all the glory V.42-46

Live Lives of Readiness in Jesus Return
This parable makes a contrast and presents the deeds of a good and an evil slave and the respective consequences. The first slave is found faithfully serving his master, when the master returns, he is rewarded (24:45–47), but the second assumes a delay in the master’s return, lives selfishly, and because this is severely punished (24:48–51). The parable is a different look of chapter 24:40–41 and anticipates the next parables in chapter 25. This parable should probably be taken as a warning to those in authority like in church leadership, pastors, and even teachers. Until Jesus comes, those who lead his disciples must use their authority to serve others rather than obsess with increasing power and other selfish benefits.
Main Idea:
Jesus calls us to be faithful while we wait for his return.
Points:
The Faithful Servant v.45-47
The Defiant Servant v.48-51

Confronted by the Gospel
Jesus confronts unbelievers so they might trust in Him, and He calls them to live on mission for Him as part of His church. God also employs believers to pray for, evangelize, disciple, and commission the people God brings into His church. In this session, we will see from Ananias’s reaction to God’s command that Saul was an inconceivable choice to be saved, much less lead the mission of taking the gospel to the Gentiles. No one would have foreseen his conversion. Yet God specializes
in enlisting enemies to His service and uniting us with His church. Yes, Saul was not the last rebel God saved and commissioned; every believer follows this pattern, including you and me.
Session Outline
1. Confronted by the Savior (Acts 9:3-9) 2. Called for a Mission (Acts 9:10-16)
3. United with Believers (Acts 9:17-20) Background Passage: Acts 9:1-30
