The gospel is the hope of the world. As we read the Scriptures, we see the overarching themes of God’s providence, power and provision to reconcile mankind and the created world to Himself through the Person and work of Jesus Christ. In light of this, we aim to be explicitly gospel-centered in all that we preach, teach and practice.

Reformation Series Week 6 (Finale!): Extra Nos.
2 Timothy 3:14-17: Our final sola—Sola Scriptura, Scripture Alone.
April 17, 1521. Martin Luther stands at the Diet of Worms before Charles V. Over 25 of his writings pile on the table. “Will you recant?” His answer still echoes: “My conscience is captive to the Word of God. Here I stand; I can do no other. So help me God. Amen.”
What is Scripture? Paul says to Timothy: “All Scripture is breathed out by God” (theopneustos—likely Paul’s own coined word). Scripture is extra nos—from outside of us. God’s own breath.
Three truths to stand on: (1) The canon is closed. (2) Scripture is infallible AND inerrant. (3) Scripture is perspicuous (understandable).
Three applications:
Know Scripture (recognize the counterfeits by knowing the real thing)
Test everything by Scripture (even Mike, John, and me—especially me)
Don’t be afraid to ask hard questions (even boring parts—Numbers 1 is still God’s Word)

Sola Fide | Extra Nos
Reformation Series Week 3: Extra Nos.
Galatians 2:11-21: Paul confronts Peter to his face in Antioch for hypocrisy. Peter had been eating freely with Gentile believers, until "certain men came from James" (the circumcision party). Then Peter drew back, separating himself. Even Barnabas got swept into the hypocrisy.
Sola Fide: Faith Alone. We are justified by faith in Christ alone, not faith plus works, not faith plus circumcision, not faith plus anything.
Peter's sin was not what he did, it was what he stopped doing. He pulled away from the table out of fear. He wore the mask of a hypocrite (literally "an actor"). A believer playing the role of an unbeliever bound by the law.
Peter knew better. He preached the first Pentecost sermon. He went to Cornelius's house. But fear turned him into a people-pleaser, and people-pleasers do not make good servants of God.
Jesus + nothing = everything. Jesus + anything = nothing.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.

Introduction | Extra Nos
Philippians 3:4-11: Paul lays out his impressive resume, circumcised on the eighth day, tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews, a Pharisee, blameless under the law. Then he calls it all rubbish compared to knowing Christ.
Extra Nos is Latin for "outside of us," Luther's term for the alien righteousness of Christ given to us. It's not something we produce; it's something handed over to us from outside.
Key truths:Dead people don't do anything. We were dead first, then made alive, we must be born again so we can believe, not the other way around.Every conversion is sudden, even the "vanilla" ones. Christ hunts us down.
No one seeks God. God seeks us (Genesis to Revelation).Legalism is not the lesser evil. Adding 1% of law-keeping to the gospel erases the gospel.
Everything good in your life is Extra Nos. From outside of you. From Him.
