The Political Cornerstone
Perhaps no other parable reveals the drastic difference between the politics of Jesus and our own like his Parable of the Tenant Farmers in Matthew 21. What Authority?
In Matthew 21:23–32, Jesus challenges our assumption that to live free of authority is to be our own. Confronted by the religious leaders of His day, Jesus reveals the all-too-common hunger to find power and security in religious systems, ideas, and institutions, and suggests that the same power grab might just live in each one of us. In its place, He offers a compelling vision of life not free of authority, but held by the only One whose authority can be trusted: God.
