One Salon. Global Movement. | Reinventing Beauty Episode 12
What happens when one of the hardest chapters of your life eventually reveals your purpose?
In Episode 12 of the Reinventing Beauty Podcast, we sit down with Rachel Demolfetto, owner of Racine Salon in New York, to hear the deeply personal story behind her journey as a salon owner, leader, and advocate for giving back.
Rachel shares how her mother's cancer diagnosis changed the direction of her life, the unexpected opportunities that followed, and the pivotal moment that led her toward creating a cancer care foundation.
We also talk about her 35 years as a salon owner, building a team where people have stayed for decades, leading with people rather than simply having them work for you, and why she believes true success means sharing what you've built with those who need it most.
This conversation is about so much more than beauty.
It's about loss, leadership, community, purpose, and using your success to leave something better than you found it.

Saved by Your Stylist
Domestic violence doesn't always look the way we expect it to. And in an industry built on trust and conversation, beauty professionals often sit closer to the signs than anyone realizes.
In this deeply impactful episode of the Reinventing Beauty podcast, we sit down with Susanne Shepherd Post — stylist, salon owner, domestic violence survivor, and co-founder of Shear Haven.
Susanne shares how education about domestic violence quite literally saved her life. What began as her own personal survival story became a mission to equip the beauty industry with the tools to recognize the signs of abuse and respond safely, compassionately, and effectively.
We discuss why the beauty profession holds a uniquely powerful position in every community, the statistics every professional should know, and why well-meaning advice like "just leave" can actually be harmful. Susanne explains how Shear Haven provides a free, 20-minute online training that teaches beauty professionals how to recognize warning signs, respond appropriately if someone discloses abuse, and offer a warm referral to trusted local resources.
She also shares the powerful legislative journey that led to mandatory domestic violence education for licensed beauty professionals in Tennessee — and how the Salon Stories Act is working to expand that impact nationwide.
This episode is a reminder that our work behind the chair goes far beyond hair, skin, or nails. It's about holding space. Believing someone when they speak. And understanding that sometimes the right words — and the right education — can save a life.
If you are a salon owner, stylist, barber, aesthetician, nail technician, educator, or leader in this industry, this conversation is essential.
