Remember when summer felt like it was going to last forever?
At the beginning of summer, September seemed impossibly far away. But eventually, whether you wanted to admit it or not, the signs started showing up.
The backyard pool suddenly felt colder. It started getting dark earlier. You didn't need the fan running all night anymore. The beaches weren't quite as busy. The blackberries were starting to rot on the vine. And then came the ultimate warning: back-to-school commercials.
In the Season 3 finale of Remember When Radio, we're looking back at all those little signs that told us summer was almost over — and that bittersweet feeling of realizing the best part of the year was coming to an end.
If you remember those final days of summer as a kid, this one's for you.

Bible Camp From Hell: My Worst Summer Camp Experience
What was supposed to be an amazing summer camp experience quickly turned into Bible Camp From Hell.
In this episode of Remember When Radio, I’m going back to one of the most unforgettable summers of my childhood — when I headed off to Bible camp expecting swimming, campfires, new friends and the greatest week ever. Instead, the food was terrible, my cabin mates turned on me after I snored the first night, I got relentlessly bullied by one particularly unhinged kid, and at one point I was seriously considering making an escape in the middle of the night.
But somehow, little by little, things started getting better.
This is a story about summer camp in the ’80s and ’90s, childhood bullying, homesickness, terrible camp food, cabin life, surviving when you desperately want to go home — and eventually getting a little revenge on the camp bully when he least expected it.
If you ever went away to summer camp as a kid — whether you loved every second of it or spent the first few nights wondering what your parents had done to you — this one might bring back some memories.
Sometimes the childhood experiences we hated the most make the best stories later.

The Way We Used to Save Our Memories
The Way We Used to Save Our Memories
Before smartphones and cloud storage, saving our memories took a little more effort.
We had film cameras with limited shots, Kodak FunSavers, bulky camcorders, handwritten journals and diaries, and photo albums we’d actually sit down and look through with family and friends.
In this episode of Remember When Radio, we’re looking back at the ways we used to preserve our lives — and wondering whether having thousands of photos and videos at our fingertips has actually made our memories any easier to hold onto.
