Praying Through the Sanctuary | Part 8
What if the greatest privilege of prayer is not what we receive from God, but the opportunity to simply be with Him?
In this episode of Renewed & Radiant, we arrive at the mercy seat, where God's presence was manifested in the earthly sanctuary.
Here, we discover the beautiful meeting of God's righteousness and mercy, and the extraordinary invitation He extends to each of us.
Through the precious blood of Jesus, we can boldly approach God's throne of grace. Not because we have earned the right, but because Jesus, our great High Priest, has made the way.
And what do we find when we come?
Mercy, grace, and a loving God who desires to commune with us.
But prayer is so much more than bringing our requests to God.
It is an invitation to spend time in His presence, to enjoy being with Him and to grow in our relationship with Him.
Together, we explore what the mercy seat reveals about God's character, why guilt and shame need not keep us from Him, and how we can move beyond simply asking God for things to enjoying communion with Him.
We also reflect on those days when our devotional time feels distracted or rushed, remembering that God's faithfulness does not change with our feelings.
Our invitation this week is simple: Draw near.
Not because we have everything together, but because Jesus has made the way.

A Thought to Carry With You
The greatest privilege of prayer is not simply what we receive from God.
It is the opportunity to spend time in His presence, enjoying communion with Him and growing in our relationship with Him.
In our next episode, we conclude our Praying Through the Sanctuary series by retracing our steps through the sanctuary and discovering what it means to return to everyday life having spent time in God's presence.

39 | Inside the Ark: Treasures of the Covenant
What can the Ten Commandments, a golden pot of manna, and a budded rod teach us about God and our relationship with Him?
In this episode of Renewed & Radiant, we continue our journey of prayer through the earthly sanctuary, arriving in the Most Holy Place to explore three remarkable treasures associated with the Ark of the Covenant.
Each reveals something beautiful about the character of God and invites us into a deeper relationship with Him.
• The Ten Commandments remind us that God's law reflects His character of love, and that true obedience flows from a heart that loves Him.
• The golden pot of manna reminds us of God's faithful provision and His invitation to trust Him for our daily needs rather than worrying about tomorrow.
• Aaron's rod that budded reveals God's life-giving power and reminds us that the One who begins a good work in us is faithful to complete it.
As we reflect on these treasures, we are invited to examine our hearts, surrender our need for control, and depend on Jesus rather than our own strength.
Because the sanctuary was never simply about rituals or sacred objects. It was about revealing God's character and His desire to restore our relationship with Him.
And beyond these treasures lies something even more wonderful: the presence of God Himself.
Scriptures referenced
• Exodus 25:16 – The testimony placed inside the Ark
• 1 John 4:8 – God is love
• John 14:15 – Obedience as a response to love
• Exodus 16 – God's provision of manna
• Matthew 6:11 – Our daily bread
• John 6:35 – Jesus, the Bread of Life
• Numbers 17:8 – Aaron's rod that budded
• Philippians 1:6 – God completes the work He begins
• John 15:5 – Abiding in Jesus
A moment for reflection
As you spend time with God in prayer, consider:
1. Am I allowing God's love to shape my character and obedience?
2. Am I trusting Him to provide for today's needs?
3. Am I depending on His transforming power, or trying to produce change through my own strength?
Remember: The God who calls us to love, provides for our needs, and brings life where there was none is the same God who invites us to know Him personally.

38 | The Altar of Incense – Praying in His Presence
Prayer is an invitation to draw near to God, talk with Him, linger in His presence and bring others before Him.
In this episode of our Praying Through the Sanctuary series, we move to the final piece of furniture in the Holy Place: the Altar of Incense, standing immediately before the veil into the Most Holy Place.
Scripture gives us the beautiful picture of incense rising before God with the prayers of His people. Here we discover not only the privilege of prayer, but the power of intercession.
Prayer is not our last resort. It is one of the most powerful things we can do. God invites us to bring others before Him, trusting that He hears our prayers and works in ways we may never see.
And when we do not know what to pray, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, and Jesus Himself is our great Intercessor.
We cannot make another person's choices for them. But we can bring them before God, ask Him to continue drawing them towards Himself, and trust them into His hands.
In this episode:
• What the Altar of Incense teaches us about prayer
• Why prayer is relationship, not performance
• The biblical connection between incense and the prayers of God's people
• Why our prayers make a difference
• Praying for people who cannot or will not pray for themselves
• Asking God to protect those we love when their choices are leading them towards harm
• How God respects freedom of choice while continuing to draw people towards Him
• How the Holy Spirit helps when we do not know what to pray
• Why prayer changes us as well as the situations and people we are praying for
• What it means to pray without ceasing
• Learning to linger with God and ask, "Lord, who would You have me pray for?"
Key Scriptures
• Exodus 30:1–10 – The Altar of Incense
• Psalm 141:2 – Our prayers rising before God as incense
• Psalm 116:1–2 – God inclines His ear to our prayers
• Revelation 8:3–4 – Incense rising with the prayers of the saints
• Hebrews 7:25 – Jesus lives to make intercession for us
• Romans 8:26 – The Holy Spirit helps us when we do not know what to pray
• 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – Pray without ceasing
