Episode 076: AEP and Amazon back 960-MW nuclear build in Indiana
American Electric Power, Amazon, and X-energy announced plans on October 19 to develop a 960-megawatt advanced nuclear facility at the former Breed Generating Station in Sullivan County, Indiana, using twelve Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, with Amazon committing to a long-term power purchase agreement to underwrite costs. The deal is described as one of the largest hyperscaler nuclear offtakes disclosed to date, and it arrives as the NRC granted TerraPower's Kemmerer Unit 1 construction permit on March 4 and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact for X-energy's Long Mott project in May. Also this week, Anthropic donated the Model Context Protocol to the Linux Foundation alongside its largest spec update since launch, and Kubernetes 1.34 reaches end of life on October 27. For utilities, large buyers, and infrastructure teams, firm carbon-free power procurement and expiring cluster support both require near-term decisions.

Episode 075: AWS Builds Full-Stack Runtime for Enterprise AI Agents
Amazon Web Services spent 2026 assembling what it calls an end-to-end platform for agentic workloads: the Bedrock Agent Registry launched in April to catalog and govern agents across an organization, throughput climbed from twenty-five to two hundred tokens per second per agent by July, and agents can now autonomously spend money on paid content, gated by policy controls. The Register's counterpoint is worth noting — Amazon's brand-churn history complicates long-lived platform commitments. Separately, an Iranian government-linked campaign expanded from water systems to energy and telecom, with more than one hundred utilities targeted across at least a dozen states. Hyperscalers also inked multi-decade nuclear power agreements at gigawatt-class scales, while FERC blocked direct on-site supply arrangements — developments that will reshape both utility capital planning and data center procurement for years ahead.

Episode 074: OpenAI Puts Jalapeño Inference Chips Into Production
OpenAI confirmed this week that its Jalapeño ASICs, co-designed with Broadcom, are now running in production alongside AMD EPYC Turin hosts — converting a June announcement into live serving infrastructure. OpenAI's hardware VP went on record describing Nvidia's standalone Vera platform as "a little bit behind on that maturity level," a direct, named challenge from a top-tier customer; the Financial Times separately reported Jalapeño is meeting performance targets on a real-time coding model. Also this week, the European Commission is expected to designate AWS and Azure as Digital Markets Act gatekeepers as soon as November, and the DOE's SPARK program is deploying one point nine billion dollars to upgrade transmission across twenty-six states. Compliance teams at major cloud providers and grid planners alike have near-term deadlines to track.
