Inside Gaza’s Hospitals: Dr. Feroze Sidhwa on War, Humanity & Islamophobia
In this episode of Reset Critical, host Niaz Kasravi sits down with Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, an American trauma and critical care surgeon who has provided humanitarian medical care in Gaza and other conflict-affected regions. Dr. Sidhwa recounts what he witnessed inside Gaza’s hospitals, including surviving a hospital bombing and learning that a teenage patient he had treated had been killed. Their conversation explores the emotional toll of humanitarian medicine, the courage of Palestinian healthcare workers, and moments of compassion amid devastation.
As members of the Zoroastrian community, Niaz and Dr. Sidhwa also examine Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism, how historical and personal trauma can shape our fears, and why recognizing prejudice is essential to moving beyond it. Dr. Sidhwa also reflects on Americans’ responsibility to turn awareness into meaningful action.
This candid conversation covers Gaza, trauma, prejudice, empathy, and our shared humanity.

While most of the developed world has abolished the death penalty, the U.S. federal government is pushing harder for executions than it has in years. Niaz, who led the NAACP's successful campaign to abolish the death penalty in Maryland in 2013, makes the full case for abolition: it doesn't deter crime, it costs more than life imprisonment, it's applied in a racially discriminatory way, and it has sentenced more than 200 innocent people to death row, who were later exonerated. Plus: what's happening right now as the federal government moves in the opposite direction of the rest of the world.

Climate Despair Is A Choice
Wildfires burned across multiple continents this summer, yet some people still deny that climate change is real. We quickly dispel that denial, then confront the harder truth: we can't undo the damage, but we can still stop the worst of it. We revisit a genuine environmental success story, the world's actual fix for the ozone hole, and ask the obvious question: if we did that, why can't we do it for climate change? The honest answer is about scale, money, and who's been allowed to write the rules. Plus: three specific questions to ask any candidate who claims to care about climate change.
