Hello there! I'm Paul, and this is Retro House Mixtape. An online mixtape of old house music picked from the nooks & crannies of my record collection. Playing the kind of house music you either haven’t heard in ages, have forgotten about or maybe never heard before (plus a cheeky remix or an outright anthem here and there).
Get stuck into the various episodes here on the podcast. More episodes are available on my website (https://retrohousemixtape.com) or over on my page on Mixcloud (https://www.mixcloud.com/RetroHouseMixtape/).
It’s all about old, new, funky, pumpin, soulful, electronic, groovin, driving, vocal, dub, dirty, smooth, upfront, classic, super tasty HOUSE MUSIC.

"Everybody dance, do-do-do, Clap your hands, clap your hands". I initially wasn't sure about this episode when I was recording it. I'd already thrown away an aborted attempt when I had that classic DJ nightmare of not picking a good next track before the current one had finished playing. I'd lost the energy to have another go. But I stuck with it and by the time I threw on a remix of Chic's "Everybody Dance" I found myself singing along like a total fool. I really like this episode, some big chunky disco-drenched grooves going on here. And it ends with one of my favourite house tunes of all time, Fire Island's "If You Should Need A Friend", a big uplifting piano anthem with a positive message.

Episode 137 - Let Yourself Go
These episodes come about in varying ways. Sometimes I know exactly what I'm going to play. At others times I make it up on the spot (like with the previous episode - "That London Sound" (https://retrohousemixtape.com/2026/10/02/episode-136-that-london-sound/)). This time it's a little of both. I had the first four songs picked and then winged it from there. What we end up with is a mix with a split personality. It starts with a vibe that flirts between funky and jacking but at the halfway make we go into progressive and melodic territory.

Episode 136 - That London Sound
For this episode I felt like going with a theme, so I dipped into a folder of tunes simply called "That London Sound". It's a collection of tracks that takes me back to the late 90's. Around '97 when the likes of Jeremy Sylvester (under various guises), RIP and Nu-Birth (again, under various guises) were pumping out garage bangers with synth-based chords, soulful vocals and deep, deep baselines. If you liked the previous 'Speed Garage' episodes (https://retrohousemixtape.com/?s=speed+garage&ct_post_type=post%3Apage) of the show, you'll probably like this one too!
