Two years ago in Georgia, tens of thousands of pro-European protesters rallied against the disputed results of the October 2024 parliamentary election, which was officially won by the ruling Georgian Dream party. A few weeks later, the authorities announced the suspension of the country's European Union accession process. Despite an ongoing crackdown, smaller-scale protests continue every day in the capital Tbilisi.

"Blood diamonds" became infamous for funding the brutal civil war in Sierra Leone. Beginning 25 years ago, the Kimberley Process aimed to put an end to this illegal trade. Accused of complicity in the conflict, the diamond industry has since sought to clean up its image, emphasising an ethical shift. But a quarter of a century on, have the former "blood diamonds" truly become synonymous with development? FRANCE 24's Sarah Sakho and Simon Martin report.

From 'Jungle' to jungles, migrants in Calais continue to dream of UK
October 2026 marks 10 years since the Calais "Jungle" in northern France was dismantled by French police. The camp was home to thousands of migrants who wanted to cross the Channel and reach the UK. A decade on, migrants continue to dream of reaching British shores and the "Jungle" has been replaced by many smaller jungles scattered along the northern French coastline.
