Rewired is a raw, unfiltered podcast about healing after trauma, addiction, incarceration, and broken systems. We expose the dark side of rehab, recovery, and the institutions that fail us and spotlight the survivors who rewired their lives anyway. These aren’t comeback stories they’re the messy, powerful truths behind real healing.
Hosted by Kelly, former Drug & Alcohol Counselor.
Rewired is where pain meets resilience. If you’re healing, still fighting, or trying to understand you belong here.
Casey always felt different .. long before the substances, long before the labels.
For years, she was stuck in a cycle of substance use she couldn’t break, no matter how hard she tried. Methadone kept her alive for five years, but it wasn’t the full answer. What she really needed was something she had been fighting for all along: a proper psychological evaluation.
Once Casey was finally diagnosed with autism and ADHD, everything shifted. What had looked like “failure,” “relapse,” or “lack of willpower” suddenly made sense. With the right understanding and support, she was able to taper off methadone, reclaim her autonomy and rebuild her future.
Today, Casey is five months away from graduating nursing school and becoming an RN.
This is a short but powerful story about misdiagnosis, survival, harm reduction, and what becomes possible when people are actually listened to.

Unconditional Love Isn’t What We Were Taught
Unconditional love gets talked about like it’s soft .. but for many of us, it was never safe, simple, or real.
In this episode, I unpack what unconditional love actually means in recovery, and why so many people who grew up in systems of control learned to confuse love with compliance, silence, or performance.
We talk about:
• How conditional love shapes behavior
• Why “earning love” keeps people stuck
• The difference between care and control
• What unconditional love looks like outside of punishment-based systems
This conversation isn’t about perfect parents, perfect partners, or getting it right.
It’s about unlearning the belief that you have to be good, quiet, healed, or compliant to be worthy of love.

The work doesn’t end here
This episode is a pause .. not an ending.
I’m taking a step back from telling my personal story, not because it doesn’t matter, but because it’s heavy and I believe in listening to myself the same way I tell others to value themselves and listen inward.
Rewired isn’t going silent.
The work continues through exposing systems that cause harm and by holding space for people to say the hard part out loud .. safely, with consent, and without turning pain into spectacle.
Going forward, Rewired will include listener-submitted stories and conversations that connect lived experience to the systems behind it: recovery, coercive treatment, the Troubled Teen Industry, incarceration, and “help” that hurt.
You don’t need a full story. One moment is enough. Anonymous is always an option.
This pause is not avoidance.
It’s alignment.

Mom - Case File 03 - Saftey wasn’t the standard
In Case File 03, Kelly rewinds to the years before everything went wrong. The years that taught her to stay small, read the room, and expect punishment instead of protection. Living under constant emotional control reshaped how she understood safety, authority, and love—and quietly rewired her internal compass.
This episode explores how trust issues are formed long before the obvious harm begins:
• Growing up in a home where rules meant humiliation, not safety
• Learning that adults could flip overnight
• Why strict control coexisted with dangerous access
• How attention from the wrong adult felt like refuge, not threat
This isn’t the teacher story yet.
This is the setup.
The overlooked chapter that explains why certain boundaries didn’t feel wrong at the time and why it took years to name what actually happened.
Content Note: This episode includes emotional abuse, boundary violations, and grooming setup. No graphic details.. just the truth.

Becoming the problem
In Case File 02: Becoming the Problem, Kelly traces how growing up in chaos wires a brain for one rule: stay ready. When adults label a kid "a problem," they rarely ask the real question what happened to her?
This episode includes a content note for childhood volatility, aggression, and emotional abuse (no graphic details). Kelly shares what it was like living in instability, walking on glass, and learning "rules" about love and harm that were never real-until anger became
armor.
Through the Rewired Lens, she unpacks what she believed then ("if I'm the scariest person in the room, nobody can hurt me) versus what she knows now: armor gets heavy, lonely, and dangerous-and "acting out" is often communication.

The Things I Never Said Outloud
This is the first episode of Rewired: Case Files-and I'm starting with my own file.
Most people in my life think I'm "mysterious." I'm not. I've just carried a lot in silence because I didn't want to burden anyone... and I'm done carrying it alone. This case file starts before the drugs, before the arrests, before any of it.. back in the house I grew up in, and the moment when everything in my brain shifted.
In this episode
What my childhood environment really looked like
The moment that split my life into "before" and "after"
How survival mode can turn into a whole personality
Why I'm opening my own file first
Content note
This episode includes domestic violence and childhood trauma.

Conditioned to Silence
You think prison just takes your freedom?
Try your voice.
Your softness.
Your sleep.
Your ability to cry when it hurts.
This episode is a soul deep, psychologically layered breakdown of what really happens when we cage human beings.
It’s about what they take and what you forget how to give yourself back.
You’ll hear:
• Why survival inside rewires your brain and nervous system
• How reentry strips you bare all over again
• What post-incarceration syndrome really looks like
• Why coming home is not the end it’s another war
• The trauma of silence, and what it costs to speak again
This isn’t just about prison.
It’s about what happens when institutions profit from obedience and condition you to stay quiet, even when you make it out.
“They took my voice so slowly, I didn’t even notice it was gone.”

They Let Us Share a Bed (Season Finale)
In rehab, no one taught Gabbi what real love was but they didn’t stop her from falling into it either. The treatment center allowed her and her boyfriend to share a room, a bed, and a fragile dream of a life after addiction.
But boundaries weren’t the only thing missing. No real therapy. No recovery plan. No safety net. Just two wounded people clinging to each other inside a system that profits from relapse..
Gabbi became pregnant. He relapsed. And one night, while she slept in their Airbnb, he locked himself in the bathroom and never came out. He never got to meet his son. And Gabbi was left to carry not only her grief, but the silence of an industry that never cared.
This season finale is about love, loss, and the devastating cost of a broken system.

The Florida Shuffle
They promise healing. The reality? A billion-dollar industry built on relapse.
In this episode, Kelly, a former counselor turned whistleblower, pulls back the curtain on America’s rehab machine through the story of Gabbi, a young woman chewed up by the system. From the piss-stained mats of a Kensington detox to the love-bombed arrival in Florida, where cigarettes and car rides are just part of the hustle, Kelly exposes the truth: relapse isn’t failure, it’s the business model.
This is the Florida Shuffle. Where people aren’t treated; they’re traded.

Billable Days
An eighteen-year-old DUI should have meant a short hospital stay three to seven days, tops. But with private PPO insurance, Gabbi became a goldmine. What should have been treatment turned into fifty long days of confinement, no therapy, no plan, and no way out. In this episode, Kelly peels back the layers of Gabbi’s story from a childhood shaped by neglect and hypervigilance, to the moment the system turned her pain into profit. Through raw storytelling and hard science, Billable Days reveals how trauma rewires the brain, and how an industry built on “care” is cashing in on the people it’s supposed to help.

The Blueprint
Before we get to Gabbi’s story, we need to talk about the system that broke her.
In this episode, I’m laying it all out:
🧠 The Florida Model
💸 Body brokering
🧾 Insurance fraud disguised as care
🧠 What trauma actually does to the brain
🩶 And why some of us get addicted to chaos long before we ever pick up a drug
This isn’t just about bad treatment.
It’s about an entire industry built on pain, profit, and pretending to help.
If you’ve ever wondered how people die in places called “healing centers” .. this is the blueprint.
Trigger Warning: Mentions of trauma, relapse, unethical treatment practices, and systemic neglect.

The Florida Model — When Recovery Becomes a Business
They said it was rehab.
But it was a trap.
In this raw, unfiltered intro episode, we break down the Florida Model, a system designed not to heal, but to profit. From body brokering and insurance fraud to co-ed flop houses disguised as treatment centers, Florida’s private rehab industry has become ground zero for exploitation masked as recovery.
You’ll learn how relapse is monetized, how teens and young adults are lured across the country with promises of help, and how the cycle keeps going. fueled by private insurance and silence.
If you’ve ever questioned what treatment really looks like behind closed doors, this is your wake-up call.
Trigger warning: mentions of overdose, sexual exploitation, and institutional abuse.
